Lately he is rattling more than his usual wont. So how is he trading? As always??...Some thoughts...
Lately, on getting that jolting discolour of his pretty picture of new wife, what were his thoughts? That he had greatly abused his long time companion (A). That he deeply regretted his folly. That she was always a heart of gold and he OWES her a prostrate apology. And how he is showed going about it? Instead of a sensitivity that must follow such 'jolt', all of sudden he has charges/demands as a right! Refused. And now he is on revenge vendetta! Wait, remorse surfaces again. Now 'return' agenda! Oh, wasn't he always selfish? But arre, what is this? One moment penitent, one moment 'family only-not YOU', other moment hatred, scheming, revenge. Now again remorse/ love/ return?! Head is spinning.
As a narration, he is meandering too wildly to ascribe a coherence of fictional writing. The writer is trying to sell a base defective write up. For purchase was made long before they started tossing him as per their 'shock value' whims post 'message' requirements. Boy was bright and spoilt, but not beyond repair. He was sensitive to injustice meted to Anandi and tried to face the unjust as well as a powerless child can. He was indelibly bonded with a peer that fate has thrown them together through a foul custom. The bonds grew intact in adulthood. But then 'message' imperative demanded he be showed cheaply 'upgrading' his avowed affections! Loathsome and disgusting but plausible...But in afterwards, why such incorrigibility- implausible under the influence of a shocking 'realization'? Selfishness cannot explain this later inconsistency.
Now before I might be trounced for such blasphemous 'support', let me clear this. I despise this character post adulthood, for his obnoxious ill usage of his primary relations, his abundant swagger and betrayal to his loyal ally in total. He no longer deserves her. The abuses were enough to keep him at bay. In fact, a fitting reversal was the realization of the 'loss'. A lifelong regret is a poetic punishment- the parable of 'a selfish betrayal well punished in a permanent loss'.
BUT why this 'despise' can not accommodate a pity, if he really realize? Or why can't writers make him 'really realize'? Was he antagonist always? But I thought an evil custom in general and orthodox grandma in particular (pre reform) were the antagonists. Was he less of a victim of these tossing- a part of protagonists- only because he was a male child? Why should he not be given even a 'losing' redemption? Only to make an 'easy' way for new pair? I wish the new pair all the best. But also wish, their 'success' premium is not an avoidable vilification of a foolish loser...Almost a sure thing, just as writer will show him scheming more obnoxiously , sinking deeper...as in a soap!
