hi everyone, i have some very sad news, steve irwin died earlier this morning by a puncture to his heart by a sting ray tail. Here is a link about how it happened.

http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/TV/09/04/australia.irwin/ind ex.html

I know that this may be a bad time to ask, but do u think that he should have taken certain precautionary measures which may have prevented this? (Since this is DM and i dont want this topic to be closed)

He also has a daughter and son, and his wife Terri Irwin. We all may remember him from his fame "the Crocodile Hunter Diaries) and he wa a leading envioronmentalist and animal enthuasist.

Please pray for his family to be alright.

I pray that his soul rests in peace and that his family has the strength to cope with this immense loss. I used to love his "Croc Hunter" series and regularly watched it on Discovery.

I dont think there was really a way for him to protect himself. I read in a Yahoo article that sting rays can wound you, but they were not necessarily thought to be fatal.

Stingrays have a serrated, toxin-loaded barb, or spine, on the top of their tail. The barb, which can be up to 10 inches long, flexes if a ray is frightened. Stings usually occur to people when they step on or swim too close to a ray and can be excruciatingly painful but are rarely fatal, said University of Queensland marine neuroscientist Shaun Collin.

Collin said he suspected Irwin died because the barb pierced under his ribcage and directly into his heart.

"It was extraordinarily bad luck. It's not easy to get spined by a stingray and to be killed by one is very rare," Collin said.

I somehow believe he would have wished to die a death like this, being adventourous and not a boring death due to sickness or old age.

I used to be amazed at this guy and his ways with crocs and dangerous snakes. But he loved adventure to the hilt.

May his soul rest in peace and i hope he happilly chases a few crocs in heaven.
