Arhi Long OS in Possibly Two Parts: Grown Ocean

"So, tell me Arnav, do you still want to marry her? Even after knowing that her mother killed your parents? Killed your mother?"

Arnav stood in silence, his world shattering once more, but with his mind numb for a change.

She is waiting for you.

The voice came out of the dark abyss, a muffled whisper that sent him reeling.

It got louder.

She's waiting for you, at the mandap. She is beautiful. She is wearing her wedding dress. She has waited for this, Arnav.

A flash of her never ending laughter and smiles ' her happiness of the last few weeks, her playful nature, her ease and comfort around him, no longer scared, the love in her eyes apparent and shining, her irises clear of all doubt, her heart in his hands to make his own.

She deserves this. You owe it to her.

The final ritual.

Complete it.

Daadi was asking him a question, but his ears had fogged up. The scene in the garden swam lazily before his eyes, as he remembered telling her that they had already become one.

The times when she had joked about leaving him, and he had grabbed her slim arms and brought her crashing into him, making her apologize for daring to even think of them not being together, of him not loving her enough.

"Arnav! Are you even listening? I was saying how on earth are you going to go ahead with this? How can you live with her knowing that she is her daughter? Yes, I know she is adopted, but who brought her up, taught her morals and values? Her."

He was lost. His hands made their way to his head, covering his eyes as he took a staggering step backwards, bile rising at his throat.

All those times when he had saved her from falling, his hands at the small of her back, her breasts pushing against his chest, her quickening breath fanning his jaw, her eyes large as they looked into his.

That time in Diwali, if only he had done the damn deed.

How she had hugged him for the first time because she had nobody else, because she couldn't afford to be weak in front of anybody else.

The time when he had held her limp form in his arms, the time when he had believed it was too late. The time when she had returned to him after their heartbeats had become one.

The time when they had danced their first dance, both of them treading dangerous waters, wanting to go farther, way farther, but too afraid of the past, too afraid of hurt and rejection, her in blazing green, he her black prince.

The time when he kissed her.

The time when he misunderstood her. The time when he married her.

The time when -

"Hum bhi aapse I love you dammit."

How was it possible, he wondered as his legs gave way. How was it possible to have so many memories with someone whom I should never have met? How was it possible to love someone whom I was destined to hate?

"What should I do?"

He began rocking back and forth.

"What should I do? What should I do???"

The moan was strangled and hoarse, ending in a deep, guttural cry, and thus was Daadi alarmed. She sat beside him, and put a comforting hand on his shoulder.

"Don't worry, Arnav. We will get you through this. After that woman and that girl are gone from our lives, we'll help you renew your life. I'll help you. There are so many better girls out there!"

She sneaked a look at him; his face remained hidden in his hands. Taking it as a good sign that he was actually listening to her, she continued.

"You know, I had a feeling about Khushi from the moment I met her. She reminded me of someone. And of course, once I met Garima, it all fell into place. Arnav, I know you think otherwise, but know this: it was never Damaadji's fault. Just like her mother, Khushi was also the other woman, this time almost ruining your sister's life. You should all thank me for saving Anjali Bitiya's marriage, and soon you'll thank me for recognizing Khushi's true colours. Listen to me ' throw her out of this house, for good. She is nothing but trouble, eyeing another woman's husband, just like her mother -"

"Out."

"What? Kya?"

"I said out."

Daadi stood up, her body shaking in fury.

"How dare you -!"

Her words were cut off as abruptly as he stood up, his powerful frame towering well above her, his eyes red and filled with rage. When he spoke, his voice was low yet every word was clear, and contorted with loathing.

"How long have you known about - about Garima Aunty, Daadi?"

The question caught her with surprise, and so she answered honestly.

"Since the Haldi."

Seeing his face darken, she realized her mistake and tried to rectify it.

"I didn't tell you because -"

"Stop."

"What?"

"I know why you didn't tell me. You wanted to see her suffer, didn't you? Have her wedding broken on her wedding day, have her left alone on the mandap. Wasn't that your plan, Daadi?"

"Arnav -"

"Just like how you had gone to her house that day to break our marriage, and then came back and lied to us -"

"I did all that to protect you, to protect my family!"

"Sorry, whose family? Where were you for your family all these years, Daadi? Why the sudden interest, why the sudden return?"

She stayed quiet, her face red with anger, her eyes giving away all truth. He felt himself exploding.

"Shyam."

"It was him, wasn't he?"

Low, rumbling laughter came tumbling out of him and she recoiled, alarmed at how cruel it sounded.

"He fed you lies."

She held up her hand. "Bas! You are the one who was fed lies, Arnav! Come out of her trap, it is not yet too late! And now even better the reason to do so! Both of these women have no character! They both tried to ruin your family!"

"I don't think you heard me the first time, Daadi."

He might as well have spat at her as she recognized the cold sneer in his tone.

"You disrespectful child! Do you not know how to talk to elders? Is this what your Nani has taught you? Is -"

She had barely completed her words when he had marched straight up to her, his face unrecognizable in its ferocity .

"Never. Insult. Nani. Not in my house, not anywhere."

He took a step back, trying to calm himself. He looked her straight in the eyes before speaking his next words.

"You need to get yourself out of my house. Right now."

The slap came whizzing his way but he had had enough; her eyes widened in furious disbelief as they moved to the hand gripping her arm. He tightened his grip, not caring that it was his grandmother, not having any care left for the world, his heart screaming and yearning for something he could now never have, his body wanting to curl up from the agony.

"Do you even know what you are saying? Just look at what that witch has done to you. What black magic she has conjured! I am sure this is what she had done to Damaadji!"

"I said GET OUT!"

She gasped as he pushed her away.

"I mean it, Daadi. You are not welcome here anymore. This is my mother's house, not your son's. I am Arnav Singh Raizada. There are no Maliks in this house. And as long as I live, there never will be. So leave, and take your precious Damaadji with you."

"Chotte!"

His sister's agonized cry tore through the room, and he turned to see her slumped against his door, her face streaked with tears.

"I - heard everything. I was just coming to get you - everyone's waiting - but oh, oh! Is it true? Is Garimaji - oh!"

"Anjali Bitiya!"

Daadi rushed to her granddaughter who had collapsed on the floor, her body shaking with violent sobs.

Arnav stayed still. He was numbly surprised for he felt not the faintest need to go to his sister and comfort her. All he wanted to do was gather Khushi in his arms and go somewhere far away, far away where nobody would know, where nobody could tear them apart.

Khushi.

She is waiting.

Don't do it again. Don't break her heart.

She won't bear it. She can't.

The voice was back again, louder, clearer, and as the dilemma grew, so did the blinding hollow in his heart, for he knew now how the story would end -

"So it's all true?" sobbed Anjali in her Daadi's arms. "Khushiji really tried to steal my husband?"

Dadi had this quality of irritating the hell out of me by just existing...and when she opens her mouth, don't even ask me what I want to do!

She's the witch, the bitch, and anything else that might go with it!

She wanted Arnav to call off the wedding in front of everyone...I hope it blows up in her face!

And Anjali, the drama queen. Can someone actually be that stupid?
