Arhi OS: Grown Ocean, Part Two.

The floor was cold with her naked legs folded beneath her sari, and her head lolled back on the door frame as she wept her eyes out on her grandmother's shoulders. Such trickery, such deceit! She was vaguely aware of footsteps coming her way through her tears until she felt strong hands grasp her shoulders. She looked up at the face of her beloved brother, her eyes wide and shocked because he had begun to roughly shake her, as though trying to rouse her awake; his behaviour frightened her because she had never been subjected to such treatment in her life. People, especially her brother, had always been so kind, so gentle to her. Until that woman had come into their lives and destroyed everything with those cruel games she played.

"Di, have you gone mad?"

"Chotey," she began, knowing that it would be hard for him to believe, but it was time he knew the whole truth about Khushiji. "Chotey, please, believe me, but Daadi is absolutely right, Khushiji tried to take Shyamji away from me!"

Her brother's blazing eyes stared down at her for a few seconds before she went crashing backwards on the doorframe, her mind freezing because she could not believe what had just happened, she would not believe that her brother had just pushed her.

"Anjali Bitiya!" cried Daadi. "Are you alright? Arnav! Have you lost your senses? What madness is this? First me, then your sister?"

"Leave it, Daadi," she said, her voice faint. "He won't understand."

She looked up at her brother who had turned his back on them, his body stiff, his fists clenched.

"I won't let you marry her, Chotey," she said firmly. "I won't let her come into this house ever again."

She saw him turn, his face dark, tightened within the storm that was raging inside.

"She's a home wrecker, Chotey!" she said, her voice almost pleading, begging him to see sense. "Her mother wrecked our parents' lives and our lives, and now she's trying to destroy mine! She's trying to take my husband away from me!"

She was screaming now. How could he not see it? How could he not see the blatant, obvious truth?

"You should have never made him leave! How could you have thrown him out of this house? How could you? You didn't even know the full truth! You didn't know anything! Do you know how much he loves me? He doesn't love her! He loves me! And as for her, she never loved you, and she never will! She has eyes only for your money, Chotey!"

Her voice was cracking now, but she could see him shaking, and that was good, that was good because it meant he would blow up like he used to, and then everything would be alright again, just like the old times.

"Remember when you used to call her gold-digger? Remember? And how I used to tell you that you were wrong? You weren't, Chotey! I was! I was wrong! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry! If I hadn't brought her back, none of this would have happened! She tricked all of us! You, me, our family, my husband!"

"Anjali Bitiya, calm down, please! '"

"No, Daadi! Let me finish! Chotey, if my husband had been with us that day, he would have saved me! He would have saved my baby! It's all because of her! She killed our baby!"

She shuddered, having reached the end of her limit. She had never before said so much in such a volatile way. Her body was simply not made for it. She sank back against the door on the floor, exhausted, knowing that she had given it her all, knowing that her brother would do what was right, would choose her, as was right and proper and custom.
