I always heard local Maharashtrians and natives of Nashik call River Godawari as Ganga. But when I asked them why they just said thats how River Godawari is known in the local language

I always knew that Godawari was considered as scared as Ganga by the local population, but I didnt know why

Today I came to know why

Lovely episode

I just visited the Ganga-Godavari mandir and Kapaleshwar Mandir today evening😊.. Been living here in Nasik since childhood..Yes ppl here do call it Ganga and i was curious to know this too since my parents are from Delhi.. trimbakeshwar is 30 odd km from Nasik.. you can know the story from the following video

www youtube com/watch?v=DjBv-Ua8L10

Since Godavari is said to be another roop of Ganga maiyya, its known as Dakshin ganga and it flourishes Western Maharashtra as well as some Southern States.. also blessed with Amrit, it is one of the 4 Kumbh locations with the next kumbh here in 2015..
