No, simply applying sindoor and tying a mangalsutra does not mean that the marriage has been fulfilled. In Hindu customs, the important thing are the mantras. They are what connect a man and woman for 7 lifetimes. The pheres are equally important. The seven pheres stand for 7 promises that you make to your life partner (to keep her happy and safe, to take care of her family, etc) Otherwise just think about it, any random person can forcefully put some sindoor on your head. Would that mean you're married to him for the rest of your life? No! Sindoor and mangalsutra are just one part of the marriage customs in hindu religion. I'm surprised that Khushi, being the traditional and god fearing type, didn't realize this earlier!

An interesting piece of information I found online while looking for Hindu customs that our Dadi 😉 might enjoy reading about. These are the list of accepted and prohibited methods of Hindu marriages:

http://weddings.iloveindia.com/features/types-of-hindu-marriages.html

Now I understand better why Dadi would not like Arnav's secret marriage, though he calls Khushi his legally wedded wife.

My my, I liked this article. This does cover most of the scenarios under which a man and a woman can be bound by marriage, as well as which were not accepted by ancient Hindu society.

Personally I think Arnav's was at first Paishacha, but later became Gandharva. What the elders want is Brahma kind of marriage...

No it is not an illegal relationship. If a guy puts sindoor & ties a mangalsutra then they are considered legally married. In fact when people go for a court marriage in India pheras & other rituals are not performed only sindoor & mangalsutra ones are done. So its legal. It is just that Raizadas believe in rituals & thus they want them to complete it. Also pheras & all the other rasms are a major part of Indian wedding so they insisted them to do everything properly!

Hope this helped :)

That is given that they did go to the courts which is not shown in the show. Khushi herself says that they only did this in the Temple. Court marriage with maang being filled and sindoor being put still has the legal witnesses that is why it is considered legal. But just getting married remember they had no one in the temple.

As far as i know, Pheras are the most important becoz they are the only feature common in different marrying methods castes in India follow(Almost alll of them), all which are a part of Hndu community..The pheras are always taken alongside the chanting of mantras, done by a priest preferably...😊
Sindoor is yet another less common feature in all...but only pheras or only sindoor cannot complete a marriage...both have to be there..
Mangalsutra is not a necessary rite in all castes..Like characters dont wear mangalksutra in Balika vadhu and also sikh ladies dont have the custom..
As far as contract marriage goes, its a legal take on marriage and In India many old couples dont even have marriage certificate but still they are considered married coz of the witnesses who attended the wedding and saw performed rituals..Certi isnt not a very compulsory thing here..
As far as ARSHI are concerned, if dadi would have asked arnav whether he is married to khushi before 6 months, he cud say he was married legally but after 6 months he needs to have a proof that he took pheras which are compulsory for completion of marriage.. So they are not married by rituals..😲 But they are the cutest reel husband wife ever...😃😃
Hope i helped..😊
