@Bold: Just want to clarify, it's not about margin on the product. There are several products on which there are greater profit margins, not everything is so highly taxed, for example, food products, ready to wear garments. It's because tobacco, alcohol, these are legal products but belong to dark category.

Govt. tax those items more which are not essential or looked down upon in the society and therefore the outcry will be less. Dark category products, premium luxury products belong to such categories and therefore govt. knows, hardly any one will bother to protest even if they are taxed exorbitantly.

I don't know why people find tutorials and coaching classes to be something obnoxious..Hindi TV serials have almost demonized private tuition as some illegal mafia...I have been to coaching classes all my life but I never thought that I am being a part of something illegal or hideous...In fact I have learned much more from my private tutors than all my school teachers combined. My favourite English, Maths and Physics teachers are all from my tuition and had it not been for them I wouldn't have been where I am.

So what is lacking in Indian education system (schools) that you have to rely on private tuition for succeeding. Aren't the same school teachers running some of these private (tuition) institutions? So what are they teaching in private tuition that they cannot teach in a class at school?

It solely depends upon the teachers and the students. These are the two biggest influential segment. Moreover, if a student is dedicated enough, he will excel anywhere.

Private all the way!! Unless you are living in a country with high level and qualities of education. Mr. Mukesh Ambani announced that Reliance foundation will be building world class university called the Reliance university in India that will be headed by Mrs. Nita Ambani. Mrs. Ambani had also announced that this will be one of the big projects for Reliance foundation. I really am looking forward what kind of university that Reliance will be building. Really hope that this will improve the educational systems in India.
