Instead of trying to take the place of their mother, Aarti should have reassured the girls that she could never replace their mother but more than willing to be their friend and use that friendship to slowly but surely win them over. You can't force a child to call someone other than their biological mother "Ma" unless you've found a place in their heart that makes them want to refer to you as such.
