Of late, Bollywood has taken a shine to Telugu films. The roaring success of films like "Wanted" (Pokiri) and "Ready" has fueled their interest in mana movies. Currently, films like "Vikramarkudu" ("Rowdy Rathore"), "Kick", "Maryada Ramanna", "Badra", "Magadheera", "Businessman" and "Love Failure" are being remade in Hindi and now, the latest film to join the long list is the Telugu blockbuster "Arundhathi".
Confirming the news, Shyam Prasad Reddy, producer of "Arundhati", says, "Yes, we have sold the rights to Gemini Film Circuit for the Hindi remake. And I have heard that Kareena Kapoor is likely to reprise Anushka's role in the remake. This is a period film with a socio-fantasy backdrop and Anushka's performance as Jejamma, won her accolades from critics and viewers alike."
Gemini Kiran, who bought the rights for the Hindi remake of "Arundhati", confirmed that they had approached Kareena to play the lead. "It's almost confirmed that Kareena is playing the lead. We are waiting for her to adjust dates for us," says Kiran, who is jointly producing the Hindi version with Vidhu Vinod Chopra, with whom Gemini Film Circuit has had a long and successful partnership.
Hindi films produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra have often been remade in Telugu by Gemini Film Circuit, the most recent being the Tamil and Telugu remake of the Hindi superhit "3 Idiots". When asked about the remaining cast and director of the film, Kiran says, "Once the lead actress is finalized, we will announce the rest of the details."
