Why should I be happy then?

And what does this cryptic statement mean? That you love Vidya but are not responsible for her success and hence you are not happy for her?
Copying quotations from the internet is not enough...you have elucidate it also for mere mortals like us to understand!

Befuddled?

Lemme help you with your problem with inferring quotes. Though reluctant, I'm writing this essay to "ELUcidate" the cipher:

A few weeks back, my best friend said that she had got a promotion, she also said, "Thanks for being with me all the time when I was struggling with my last project!" I was genuinely happy learning about her achievement for the time being as I had seen her honest effort & her dedication for that job.

But, was I still feeling happy when I was going back to my home after the meeting? Did I shut the door of my apartment, hop on my bed, & start jumping like a toad as my friend had got a promotion?

The answer is, "No." Though I was happy while sharing her joy, TBH, the happiness never reached to the level of elation. But, I faked the exultation to cheer her up, to encourage her.

Now coming to Vidya & Bollywood folks, I felt happy for Aamir & Raju while watching 3 Idiots, felt happy for Vidya while watching TDP & Paa. But, I left my happiness for them at the theater. Never cared if they were appreciated, made loads of money, or received almost all the awards.

Likewise, I didn't feel sad for the writer/director of the movie Dil Dosti etc. for not getting any recognition. I didn't cry a bucket learning about that movie's box office report.

Pleasure or funk, I'm not into anything vicarious – this is the reason behind my indifference toward the achievement/failure of my loved ones. I was not responsible for whatever consequences (Good or bad) they were facing, why would I feel extreme emotion on behalf? IMO, lingering emotions suit best to the one who achieved or lost…

PS: Didn't know people use quotes before writing essays; I thought, people use quotes because they feel they can't express their feelings better than those words.

PPS: FYI, I didn't PICK that quote. I read that like a hundred years ago, complied with that, and started believing that. It was you who scratched the head wondering, "Who is the great guy that said this mahan baani?" and got disappointed after googling. 😃
