One can understand, if some people find Katrina's constant commerical success irritating (who doesn't actually) or feel frustrated with Kareena's ability to remain in news despite not doing anything worthwhile in films or even find your ulcers erupting after Sonam or Deepika wins some popularity polls despite having a size zero personality or feel like barfing when you see Priyanka bagging big-budget films, based on her 'relationship' with her co-stars rather than her merits!

But Vidya is one actress, whom I think, enjoys genuine appreciation and admiration from her fans (and non-fans too). Fewer people get upset or annoyed when she walks away with a National Award for The Dirty Picture (say as compared to Priyanka winning it for Fashion) or delivers one blockbuster after another, despite her apparent 'non-star' status!
Infact, many people seem to find echo in her success and feel doubly happy that 'someone' like Vidya is getting success rather than any other star in bollywood!
Why is that?
Is it because unlike the Katrina's and Kareena's, Vidya's aura is of someone who is 'one of us'?
Because despite her success, she is still so essentially, 'middle-class' in her character and nature?
Because she prefers showing her warmth and approchability rather than maintain a false facade of cold stardom on her face?
Is it because she is not an arm candy to a Khan, instead takes pride in being a 30 something, single, independent, professionally successful career woman?
Or that she prefers to let her personality speak rather than her choice of designer clothes and handbags?
Is it because she is never caught binging on drinks and drugs and is more often than not pictured in reading glasses or doing something equally mundane?
Is it because she has never felt the need to do films opposite the Khan's to prove her star status and has rather taken risks and always tried stuff that was out of the ordinary?
Or is it simply because, she proves that sometimes all it takes is talent, hard-work and good old fashioned determination to succeed in life...and having a pretty face and a killer figure is not your only passport to strike gold!
What is it about Vidya that makes us so happy for her success in Bollywood?
Please share your views guys... and bashers are more than welcome! The forum and our lives won't be the same without you lovable guys!šŸ˜‰šŸ˜†
PS: The psuedo bashers are also welcome...the types who pretend to like a particular star but actually hate them...I am not naming names here...šŸ˜†

Absolutely. But...it's not because this happened to Vidya or I am a fan or anything like that. I am happy to see somebody who followed their heart, worked their darnedest and stay true to themselves come out on top! Plus...I absolutely love it when those that do not toe the line that the establishment and their minions set come out with flying colors!

I think the fact that she has survived in this industry without the help of a sugar daddy. She has gone from working in Television to starring in movies without any inside help (as far as I know she did not have any god father or god mother to guide her).

Oh absolutely! Mera dil to totally garden garden hai on her success šŸ˜†

I am so happy that finally someone is there on the top based solely on her acting abilities... no size zero, no khans, no pouting, no fakeness, no plastic surgeries... just simple TALENT!

She has proved that in order to be successful in Bollywood you need none of the above, only hard work, some dimaag to choose the right roles, 100% commitment and of course talent! Once you have that, nothing can stop you from reaching the top... She is the perfect role model, an achiever in the truest sense!

Oh and I don't buy the funda of her not being a big star 🄱 She is a BIG star..she is running movies on her own shoulders, bagging all the awards, is being loved by critics and audiences alike.. What else makes a star? lol...she is as big as any of the kareenas or priyankas... take it or leave it!

Exactly...there is no one like Vidya in Bollywood...no one who has her kind of conviction and self-belief...and its really a very warm feeling, when such a person achievevs so much success...it gives hope to so many people!
She is a wonderful role-model for the youngsters...especially for those unfortunate ones who are so hung up by the idea of thinness and fair skin and glamour as being essentials for doing well in life! She proves them all wrong and how!!!
Aamir was one of the few actors who had done the same...going against the tide and succeeding against all odds and now Vidya has done the same! I think, Vidya's success is even more praiseworthy, because she is a woman (in a male-dominated country and industry) and unlike Aamir, has no background in the Industry!

Yes. I LOVE that she's an ACTress that can actually ACT. She lets her work speak for herself. And it's great that she's being recognized for her work, because out of all the actresses in Bollywood today, she deserves the numero uno title.

all I can say is I just love her for what she is and always staying true to herself no matter what...I recently watched her "Its my Life" epi in NDTV and I truly respect her even more now and proud of her...she is definitely one of a kind...she is still friends with Bhairvai Raichura ( Kajal Bhai of Hum Paanch) and she is still so like one of us ie. you can say middle class or just a normal human being...she does not go to anyone and everyone's bash/parties...she is not a trend setter when it comes to dressing but she is a woman of substance...she is very very inspirational to the young girls out there...as someone mentioned, no sugar daddy, no Khans, no godfather, no plastic surgeries...this is The Vidya Balan..take it or leave it!
