In the last three weeks, post the release of Phir Hera Pheri, Paresh Rawal found himself flooded with offers. They all wanted him to something similar, on the lines of his bumbling Baburao character. But the seasoned actor is fed-up of doing comedy, especially bad ones in which you end up as a buffoon.
"I must have rejected at least 17 offers in 21 days. I am outright saying no to all such stuff."
Misses variety
The seasoned actor misses the roles he enacted in films like Kabza, Sir and Tamanna. "At least, when I was typecast as a villain later on for a while, there was some peace of mind. Now in real life, I have become a cranky person doing those comedies after comedies. It's become like a curse for me. "
There are a couple of films lined up in which he raises the laughs like Rohit Shetty's Golmaal, Priyadarshan's Bhagam Bhaag and Anees Bazmee's Welcome, what he is most looking forward to is Naseeruddin Shah's Yun Hota To Kya Hota and Balki's Chini Kam.
Purana rishta
"Naseer's film is extremely close to my heart. My association with him goes a long way. We have even done theatre together. At least the characterisations in Yun Hota.. make sense. While in Chini Kam, I play the role of a father. I'd rather do such portrayals that are convincing."
Though Rawal has been in the industry for years, he still remains untouched by star trappings. "I don't aspire for fancy cars and swanky houses. I don't believe in needlessly pampering my two young sons, Aniruddh and Aditya. I come from a typical Gujarati middle-class household and still cherish those values."
Swaroop kahaan?
And why is his wife Swaroop Sampat not seen on the acting circuit? "She is doing research for a doctorate; so that keeps her busy. It is not that she does not want to act. But if two people in the same house go out to do some silly roles, you know what will happen."
