What I thought Arnav felt... as I watched him... give his best performance ever...
Part I: Khushiii!!!!
His heart sank... as he gave up running, trying to catch up with the ambulance that sped away... he could barely breathe...
"Khushiii!!" he yelled into the darkness. A cricket chirping in the distance, the ambulance speeding away and the general eerie silence was all he got in response.
Dammit... maine un dono ko kyon jaane diya? Should've butted in... main bhi chala jaata unke saath!
Images flashed through his mind... that time he'd said so callously to her, "Farq nahin padta..." as she stood transfixed, her wide eyes staring at him in disbelief initially, then the shadow of doubt and finally, sadness.
Watching the ambulance in the distance, he held on to the only thing he had left that was hers... a broken piece of her glass bangle. He clenched his fist... the jagged edge pierced his palm. His hand hurt, but it was nothing compared to what the rest of him was feeling...
I hope she's ok... I just hope... Devi Maiyya... mein aap mein to vishwas nahin karta... but woh to karti hain! Mere liye nahin, to Khushi ke liye hi sahi... please, let her be ok!
The anguish was unbearable; it was as if someone had wrenched his heart out with iron claws... maybe that would have hurt less. He stood there, all alone, in grief... reliving all those moments, all those times they crossed swords, exchanged angry words... the times he had humiliated her, made her cry...
And then, he thought about the good times... her radiant smile, how she'd light up the room with her laughter... the kisses, and then this morning, when she'd giggled on seeing the haldi on his face.
He unclenched his fist... and looked at his bloodied hand. He held on to the piece like that was the only thing keeping him alive. The tears came, he didn't wipe them away... the last time he'd felt like this was when he'd heard that gunshot and his life had changed forever.
He walked back slowly... defeated in every sense... like his reason for being was gone... he gave up, and just fell, his knees bearing the brunt of his fall.
Nothing mattered anymore...
