I never understood that angle, and wonder if it really happens in real life. Do the mothers really get like "jealous" of their daughter in law because their son spends more time with her?

Why would you ever get them married in the first place if all you except is your son to listen to every little word you say?

This is something, I fail to understand...

The portrayal of mothers getting jealous of their DIL's...I mean what the heck yaar, you are two different woman who share a very different space in a man's life. One is his reason of existence and the other is his reason for existence and the two can never collide because they hold a place in a very subtle way in his life.

You have got your son married, let the couple enjoy from now on. Why do you want to poke your nose inbetween the happily married couple? They deserve every right to stay together else why get them married if they need to stay separately.
