He is driving his car so fast... He is so scared...

Maan Singh Khurana who is not scared of anybody, is scared today of her anger!

He knows he is so dead!!! She is gonna kill him!! Okay, that's a little bit exaggerating the statement but seriously, he knows it's gonna be worse!!!

He knows she's not gonna talk to him...and that's gonna be worse for him even from death. He just can't stand her not talking to him!!!

He knows she's gonna be super mad at him today! And he knows that she has every right to be mad at him!! After all, he's 2 hours late for their date!!! And he knows how difficult it is to pacify her when she gets mad!!!

He curses his assistant Adi for keeping him busy in the meeting. Idiot Adi! Couldn't he handled the meeting on his own??!!!!

He puts the brake abruptly and swiftly gets out of the car. He runs towards the shopping mall at full speed while narrowly escaping from bumping into many people.

He quickly grabs a big box of chocolates, a teddy bear, and a beautiful bouquet of red roses... He knows these are gonna act his bribes for crime!!!

And he again ran out after checking out and drives fast towards his destination...

He gets off from his car quickly and saw her standing few meters away. She is looking at her wrist watch in every 2 seconds and he can tell from her face that his prediction was true.. He is so dead today!!!

He took a deep breath and goes towards her.

She looks towards him and turns her face away angrily. This is gonna be hard!!

He flaunts the box of chocolates in front of her face but she doesn't even give a second glance to the box. He throws the box away a bit disappointedly.

Now the next one...

He then flaunts the flowers in front of her, but she still doesn't melts...

Ok now the last one...

He sends a silent prayer to babaji and flaunts the teddy bear in front of her eyes.

She looks at the bear and didn't respond for 2 seconds. He felt his heart sinking thinking that nothing worked.

But then she takes the teddy from his hand, and his eyes brightens in hope.

She looked at him and he gave her a silly smile.

She glares angrily at him.

"I'm so sorry sweetheart! I know you are really mad at me, but can't you give one last chance to me??? Please!!!" he makes a puppy-dog face.

She says angrily "You always do this papa!!! First you come late and then you say it's the last time!" she pouts adorably.

"I know Geet, but Papa was busy na?" he tried to reason.

"You mean I'm free??? You know papa, just because of you I even missed Drashti's show!!! Because I had to meet here today!"

He smiles sweetly at his 8-year old daughter Geet's adorable talks. He was still unable to understand how she developed such a strong likeness towards the VJ Drashti. She never misses her any show... Whenever anybody asks her, she always say that she wants to become a VJ just like Drashti when she'll grow up.

His thoughts gets interrupted by Geet's next words "Papa, I can't do so much! I'm your daughter! Not your wife!!!"

As soon as the words escaped from her mouth, she realises what she has said.

For a moment, Maan feels very bad with her words. Geet and Maan's relation has always been more than a father-daughter relationship. He has always been a father as well as a mother for Geet! He has never let her feel the absense of her mother. And Geet has also always been more than a daughter to him. He has always seen Natasha in Geet. He couldn't marry again because he couldn't give Natasha's place to anybody else. The place which Geet took slowly and gradually. She has matured more from her age. And she always took care of Maan not like a daughter, but like a wife...

And they had this understanding between them too... She was Geet and Natasha for him and he was Maan and Natasha for her.

So he felt like Geet is breaking their little unsaid treaty...

Geet knew she has hurted him. She makes a puppy-dog face and says "I'm sorry Papa!"

Maan looks at her and his anger flew away by looking at her face. He can never stay mad at her. She is his life!! He smiles and says "It's Ok!" and then fakes stern voice and says "But better watch it next time huh!!"

And they starts walking...

Geet says "Papa, you remember right? That today is my school function!"

Maan picks Geet up and says "How can I forget when my little princess is also participating in it!!! But maybe my princess is forgetting that what is tomorrow?" he finishes with dramatics in his voice.

"Papa, aapki princess memory ke maamle mein apne papa par gayi hai!! Then how can I forget?? Tomorrow is my birthday!!!" she said excitedly.

"Okayyy, so what present does Papa's princess wants for her special eighth birthday??"

"Papa!" she says in persuading voice.

"Hmm."

"Can you give me the letter today??!!!" she said hopefully.

Maan shakes his head and says defiantly "Sorry Geet, rules are rules!! You are not getting the letter before the clock strikes 12!!"

Geet was expecting this, but still she felt a bit disappointed. She says in a little voice "Okayyy!"

And they enters the mall to do their shopping...

SCHOOL FUNCTION

Maan is so proud of Geet! She is taking part in the competition in which kids had to talk on given topic for one minute.

He is confident that Geet is gonna win this competition. After all, she is Maan Singh Khurana's daughter! Winning is in her blood!! When he has never lost, how can his daughter loose??!!! Okay scratch the last thought!! He has lost, he thinks guiltily. Not just once, but many times... But that was long time ago!!! Anyways, right now Geet is more important! I mean, his 'daughter' Geet!!! He chides himself mentally...

He takes a seat with dadima in the middle row. And after some time, the function starts...

Many kids come and go after speaking on their topic. Some were good, some were not so good! But the best kid has yet to come! His Geet! He thinks proudly.

And the teacher says "And our next student is Geet Khurana!"

Geet gets up from her seat and goes towards the bowl to get her topic. He looks towards Maan and Dadima and gives them a smile.

Maan felt his chest getting swollen by 10 inches to see his daughter on stage! He is so proud of her!!!

Geet comes back in the front and opens her piece of paper.

But as soon as she looks at her topic, her voice gets choked in throat.

The time starts passing but she couldn't make herself say anything.

Maan looks at her confused.

Tears make way into Geet's eyes but she still didn't say anything.

Maan felt like someone has pierced his chest with a sharp dagger as he saw tears in Geet's eyes. But he couldn't understand what is making her cry.

And then a word escaped from her lips "Maa!"

And Maan realizes that her topic is 'Maa'. And the tears made way into his eyes...

How can she say anything on maa when she has never seen her mother!! God has been so cruel on his Geet to snatch her mother from her before she even opened her eyes. When every kid sleeped in their mother's lap, his daughter has slept on her father's lap! When every kid went running to their mothers for anything, Geet has came running to her father! Geet didn't even get a chance to know her mother!! He felt so helpless that for the first time he couldn't do anything for his daughter!! He has tried to fulfil every duty of her mother, but it's true that he can never be truly her mother. And that's a fact, that his Geet will never get a chance to know her mother!!

Geet was crying now, and he can't see her crying!!! He can't see her broken!!!

She said in between her sobs "I'm sorry!" and turns to go back to her seat when he gets up and says

"Maa..." Geet looks back at him "Maa is someone who loves us so much, that we sometimes can't understand it!" and he starts walking towards her "Maa is someone who makes us realize how good we are, that there is no one better than us!" he reaches her and kneels down on his knees near her "Her happiness is in our laughter, and her sorrow is in our pain!! Maa is someone we can't live without!!! Maa... Maa is everything!!! Only we don't have her!!!" and he tries to control his tears and says "But we have Papa! And he's quite nice too!! Hmm??"

Geet nods a yes while crying.

He says "Then give me a hug!" and she hugs him tightly while crying.

He consoles her stroking her hair.

LATER IN THE EVENING

Maan reaches home from office.

Today has been a very disturbing day for him. He can't see Geet in pain!! She is the one he is living every day for!!!

As he enters his home, he saw dadima sitting in the living room with some guests.

As he goes closer, he realises that he is seeing these people for the first time today. But he didn't cared. It has been a very long day for him and he is just not in a mood to sit and chat with a bunch of strangers.

He was about to sneak up into his room when dadima sees him and calls "Maan!!"

He reluctantly goes towards them and formally says hi hello to the guests.

Dadima introduces them "Maan, this is Mr. Sharma, and she is Mrs. Sharma, and this is their daughter Tanya!" she finishes with a smile.

Maan realises what this is all about!! He rolls his eyes in frustration!!!

He hasn't understood till today that why dadima does these kinda things??!! How many times he has to tell her that he's not gonna marry again!!!

He didn't want to get into any kind of argument, so just excuses himself and turns to go into his room.

Dadima tries to stop him, but he didn't listen and goes to his room...

IN HIS ROOM

He is dumbling the basketball angrily. Can this day get any more worse???

First, Geet had to go through that and now... dadima!!!

He was already disturbed and dadima's little act acted like a fuel to his anger.

He is still dumbling the basketball. Basketball has always acted a stress-reliever for him...

No matter how much angry he is, no matter how much disturbed he is, game of basketball always gave him relief.

But he always plays alone. He never plays with anybody else. Because he was never able to give his partner's place to anybody else. Her place to anybody else!!! Only she could be his partner!! He smirks and corrects his thought.. His opponent!! His best friend!! His...

His thoughts broke with dadima's opening the door.

Dadima walks in angrily and says "Maan what way is this to talk to guests??"

Maan says unaffectedly "Dadima, how many times, I have to tell you, that I don't want to get married again!! I can never give Natasha's place to anybody else!!" Pain was visible in his voice at Natasha's name.

Dadima cools down at seeing him in pain. She says feeling bad for him "So will you never marry again?"

Maan targets the hoop and baskets the ball which in turn goes from the hoop smoothly.

He looks at dadima and says "Dadima, hum ek baar jeete hain, ek baar marte hain, shadi bhi ek hi baar hoti hai" he pauses and says "Aur pyaar bhi ek hi baar hota hai! Baar-baar nahin hota!!!!"

Dadima understands that he's never gonna marry again. But she can't see her grandson so alone.

She tries again "But don't you think that Geet needs a mother?" the school incident comes in front of his eyes and Geet's crying image flashes like a dagger.

He looks away to control himself and says "She is fine dadima!! She is ok!! Because she has something, that even I don't have it!!! Her mother's letters!!!!"

Clock strikes 12...

Geet sits up with a start and says excitedly "Happy Birthday Geet!"

And she runs downstairs. This is the day that she waits for for the whole year because this is the day when she gets her mother's letter! This is the only tie she has with her mother... Her letters...

She doesn't know how many zillion times she reads each and every letter in the year...

She goes and pics up her letter from under all the other presents.

And opens it up quickly...

LETTER

My lovely princess Geet

Happy Birthday!!! Today you are 8 years old! My god, how the time flies!! It feels like just today when I picked you up in my hands as a little baby!!!

I'm sure Geet, that you are the most beautiful girl in your school!! Oh I forgot! How's your school going??

Geet says "Its fine Mom!!" and gets back into the letter.

Did you make any new friends??

Geet nods while reading.

So tell me Geet, does your Papa still gets angry a lot??

Geet again nods while smiling.

I wonder when he'll learn to control his anger??

Geet shrugs her shoulders.

I guess old habits die hard!!

Geet, today you are a big girl now... So you will be able to understand what I have to tell you.

Today I will tell you a story! This story is about me... your Papa... and... Geet!!!
