'Compromises are a part of life'
Ragini Khanna
(Sasural Genda Phool)
We know Sasural Genda Phool is popular in India but who about its acceptability abroad?
It is quite popular, especially in the US and the UK. Till date, I have never heard anyone criticising or passing negative comments about the show. Our viewers always keep us updated with their feedback and appreciation mails.
You play the character of a bubbly girl who, after marriage, becomes mature and tries to adjust with her in-laws. Do you think it is easy to change like this in reality?
It's not easy but people do change. Adjustments and compromises are a significant part of life and if one needs to live happily, he/ she has to adapt to the changes and cooperate with others. If something like this happens in my real life after I get married, I'll also adjust with my in-laws.
Don't you think television stories need to change?
Television is the medium that caters to viewers even in the remotest parts of the country who love watching such shows. That's the reason such shows are being made. Even people in metros like watching saas-bahu sagas. Every show has a mass appeal, has an individual approach and concept which in someway connects with the viewers.
A number of new concepts have been recently introduced in serials. What works best for the global audience?
Good writing, screenplay and production. If a TV show has all these three including talented actors, nothing can stop it from being popular globally.
As an actor, what are your survival strategies?
I've never planned survival strategies but I think I should start doing it now. At present, I'm satisfied with what I'm doing. Future is unpredictable and I believe in living in the present.

'Which girl doesn't want an ideal husband?'
Jay Soni
(Sasural Genda Phool)
In Sasural Genda Phool, you are depict the character of a sweet, loving and loyal husband. How popular is your character among the global audience?
SGP is quite popular, both nationally and internationally. It's been only a year and the show has gained tremendous popularity, mainly because of its unique concept and characters. We keep getting good reviews through Internet polls, facebook and emails. If we talk about my character (Ishan), it's really popular, especially among women as Ishan is an ideal husband and who doesn't want one.
Given the fact that serials have a short shelf-life and there's an image trap, how do you innovate within this limited space?
I've been a part of this industry for the 18 months and working on three shows. I don't want to restrict myself to one thing so I keep exploring something new. I agree serials have short-shelf life but then I haven't thought about it. I will got for a good script in future.
Do you feel satisfied with the character of Ishan? Do you think ideal husbands exist in real life?
I'm happy with the way the character of Ishan has shaped up. The question is not whether ideal husband exists in real life or not. It's about bonding and understanding one shares with his partner. One needs to be patient and caring.
Women on television are more dominant. How do you think men can reclaim their space?
Women have always been dominant and they deserve to be like that. I never argue with them and their dominant image does not affect me either.
