Abhay Deol's stock is so high post-'Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara' ' that the makers of his next film 'Shanghai' are willing to take on none other than Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan himself, at the box office. Trade sources say that 'Shanghai's release has been confirmed for Republic Day i.e. January 26, 2012. Apparently, this is the same date that was locked for Aamir Khan's next with Reema Kagti, rumored to be titled 'Dhuaan', meaning smoke. This news comes as quite a shocker because not many filmmakers dare to release their films at the same time as an Aamir Khan starrer.
So the sudden announcement concerning 'Shanghai' has indeed created quite a few ripples in industry circles. However, the release timing of 'Shanghai' makes sense, as this is a political thriller and reflects the state of the country. So, it is a good marketing strategy to bring a topical film like 'Shanghai' to hit theaters on Republic Day. However, we are keeping our fingers crossed and wonder if the film viewers would have a kind of bonanza on the coming Republic Day.
