'I never had any complaints'

From washing dishes to selling second hand cars, from an assistant director to Subhash Ghai to the arc lights of Bollywood and finally, stardom on television. It sounds like a rags to riches story. That's how it started for Ronit Roy... apna latest Mihir Virani (Kyunki...) and the very popular Rishabh Bajaj of Kasauti Zindagi Kay (Star Plus).

One of the most available people in the industry. Call him for an interview and he willing obliges inspite of being unwell. ''That's only because of stress, I think. Been working day and night. At one point your body gives up,'' says Ronit, for whom life is really hectic with two dailies.

Till recently he was a part of three daily shows because of Kammal. Thoroughly enjoying his stint on television, he did have apprehensions while stepping in as Mihir, mainly whether the audience would accept him or not. ''It was a challenge. But after the first episode, I received about a 100 calls - all positive,'' smiles Ronit, who definitely in one of those lucky ones to be a part of such hugely popular shows. In Kasauti Zindagi Kay... he is Rishabh Bajaj. a man who knows what he wants ''and how to get it'' he adds. ''But when it comes to emotions he can't project himself correctly. He can't handle emotions well,'' adds Roy.

After seeing the popularity of Mihir and Mr.Bajaj, he is forced to think about the power of television ''It's simply amazing. It is bigger than what I have seen as a film actor. I am really enjoying every minute. God has been very kind,'' says the actor.

Roy began his career with ads for Cabdury's, Dollops and got a break in films with Jaan Tere Naam which was a hit and the songs topped the charts. This was in 1992. There followed films like Bomb Blast, Tehqiqaat, Army, Hulchul. In all he has acted in approximately 13 films.

Then he turned to the small screen and his first appearance on the box came with Samjhauta and Nagin. ''But believe me, it was never a journey from films to television for me. I mean it was never a shift over, a make over. As an actor it was work that was important for me, be it on the small screen or celluloid'' he explains.

Currently, he is just so pleased with his shows. He's a guy who doesn't believe in making strategies, but takes life the way it comes. Talking of films, he is open to offers only if the role is interesting and has some meat to bite into. In the last few months he's refused three films already. ''I am talking and meeting people. Two early to speak about it. As of now no complaints,'' he says and in the same breath continues, ''Well, actually, I never had any complaints.''
