Hey all

Just wanted open up a topic to discuss Lamhe, which happens to be one of my fav yash chopra films...its not a very popular film, but is considered a classic by many and remains yash chopras personal favourite...
it stars Anil kapoor, sridevi, waheeda reheman and anupam kher

The film flopped badly at the BO because it had too bold a theme with incesteous overtones (man falling in love with the mother and the daughter)

Some random info from good old wiki

Lamhe (Hindi: ?????, translation: Moments) is a 1991 Hindi film directed by Yash Chopra and starring Anil Kapoor and Sridevi. The story was written by Honey Irani. The film was critically acclaimed, had exceptional music, and did brilliant business in UK. Unfortunately, it was not a box-office success in India. It is one of the few films that picked up the Filmfare Award for Best Movie despite its lacklustre business. It was inspired from the 1986 film Anokha Rishta.

Lamhe was shot in two schedules in Rajasthan and London. Over the years the film has been hailed as a cult classic and is regarded as a modern masterpiece and possibly Yash Chopra's finest film. It is also one of the biggest Bollywood hits in the overseas market and video circuit. Sridevi won a lot of acclaim for her double-role as mother and daughter, winning the Filmfare Best Actress Award and other awards. The film finds a place in the Times Movie Guide's Top 100 Indian films.[citation needed] It is in the Outlook magazine's list of All-Time Great Indian films.[1] It has been cited as Yash Chopra's personal favourite of the films he has done.[2]

Just for some healthy discussion for those who have seen the film

Did u like it?
Do u think it should have flopped?
Did u find its bold theme disturbing?

Any other comments u want to make abt the film are also more than welcome...

I loved this movie <3

Sridevi owned it, wholely and solely.

Anil Kapoor was a gem, I loved how emotional he was, and I LOVE how he showed those emotions through acting. I don't really see it in a lot of actors/actresses, but I loved how he isn't insecure about his facial expressions... whatta GENIUS!

and I love Anupam Kher 😆 I don't want to say he was comic relief because that's a little degrading to him, but he really did show awesome comic timing in the movie. He was like the chaas you need to drink after eating misal paav... haha totally fits the bill

All my female cousins would dance to all the songs they were crazy about it, it was fantastic film, Anil & especially Sri both clocked their performance. Yash Chopra should be proud for attempting such a subject for me it's right up there as one of his best works easily his scripting was tight just about flawless & he had the arsenal the actors to see his vision through, Anupam contributed brilliantly his comedy parts plus intensity especially the scene where he slaps Anil & confronts him. The songs were exceptional, so meaningful, one song till this day gives me goosebumps.

EEE! One of my most favorite movies of all times. I can watch it over and over and still not get bored (well almost.. except for the cringeworthy "Pallo" scene.. LOL).
Coming to the movie. Everyone was at the top of their elements.. Anil, SriDevi and Waheeda. Such brilliant acting, such sensitve screenplay, such intutitive directing, such wonderful music. And the last scene was pure magic.
I believe this movie was much ahead of its time. If released today I'm sure it would have received much better response. But still.. Lamhe remains as a very precious personal favorite. Lamhe, Chaalbaaz and Sadma are all I need to be convinced there have been very few actresses of Sridevi's caliber in Bollywood. She was pretty unique.

lol...pallo...🤣...tht guy almost ruined the film for me...

What i like abt lamhe is its maturity in dealing with sensitive issues, in dealing with romance (no dil shaped balloons, trip and catch routine, pinning to walls etc)...it was subtle and very well done..

and i absolutely love the soundtrack...especially kabhie main kahoon...such a gorgeous melody..

I LOVEEE the movie so much, its one of my favorite movies ever, and sridevi is such a great dancer and she was so funny in the movie and its anils most natural performance ever, anupam was funny in some scenes.

I loved the whole Rajasthan feel so much, and the old bollywood songs which sridevi is performing in front of anil is so beautifully done.

also Waheeda Rahmen what a beauty, in the movie she has grown old but she still danced soo amazingly and with so much energy when she danced to aaj phir jene ka tamana hai.

But one thing I didn't get is, how old was pallavi? and how old was anil in the start? how old was puja? and how old is anil later in the movie?

plus what does taiji mean? is anils family in the movie something royal?

Strange na, its on EVERYONE's favourite list but it was such a huge flop!

... i must have seen it a hundred times ... anupam kher was at his best ... and anil, he used to do such tapori roles but he brought so much dignity to his character ... loved every bit of it

As for its theme, i think the part of anil falling in love with younger sridevi was handled with a lot of care but sri never progressed from her childhood obsession ... So not without flaws but loved it all the same!
