The trailer of The Kerala Story 2 has reignited a storm even before the film hits theatres. Within hours of its release, social media was flooded with sharp reactions. While some viewers claim the film exposes uncomfortable truths, others including Kerala’s Chief Minister have strongly objected to its narrative.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan Calls Out The Film

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has openly criticised the upcoming film, alleging that it promotes division. In a statement released by his office, he said the first part of the franchise was created with the intention of damaging the state’s image and targeting its secular identity.

Referring to the sequel’s trailer, Vijayan expressed concern that it once again presents a distorted picture of Kerala. He questioned how films that, in his words, spread hatred are cleared for screening, while other films face restrictions at festivals. The Chief Minister also stated that portraying consensual interfaith marriages as forced religious conversions sends a dangerous message.

He further added that Kerala has long stood for communal harmony and mutual respect among communities. According to him, such films attempt to disturb that balance.

Directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh and produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah, The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond claims to be inspired by real legal cases. The trailer focuses on young women allegedly trapped in forced conversion situations. It presents intense courtroom scenes, emotional family moments, and dramatic revelations.

Producer Shah has earlier stated that although the film follows three central characters, it draws from multiple real-life incidents from across India. According to him, the intention was to make the story more reflective of a larger national issue rather than limiting it to one state. The film is scheduled for release on February 27.

The first film, directed by Sudipto Sen and headlined by Adah Sharma, had faced protests, political criticism, and even temporary bans in some regions. Despite the backlash, it emerged as a major commercial success, reportedly earning over Rs 300 crore worldwide on a modest budget.
