This is an attempt to explain the pace of the story, the it-seems-to-be-a-bit-extreme-even-for-him characterization of Maan, she-needs-to-come-out-of-her-funk Geet, and the overall mystery of the memory loss.
First, The one thing that we look forward to , and that indeed works for hindi movies/television and specifically this addictive love story is - drama. Drama characterized by extreme emotion. We like that. We lap it up like crazy.
So when we first begin to know Maan and Geet, they are xtremes of a scale.
He is filthy rich, worldly, very educated, elegant, arrogant, astute businessman who has seen the worst in deceit in relationships(mother/Sameera) , is intolerant , abhorrently self-sufficient(the guy camps in forests for days, can fix cars, jeeps, trucks alike), impatient and immaculate.
And he has his principles in stone, his judgement unmoved by the relationship with, status of, the person affected. Most specifically, he hates women and treats them with NO special leniency or leeway that he would not afford a man. They are treated unbelievably equal.
THAT is where Maan singh khurana is different from us all. Because he does not give any mind to even the physical disadvantage a woman might have in front of men. THAT is where we see his warped image, distorted by his past with which he swears no allegiance. He is a control freak, and claims, is affected by nothing(though we see he cannot let go, of the past, of grudges..).
So, hes ruthless, he does not hold back- neither in words, nor in actions. He has no sympathy with weakness or failure.
The infamous goon scene is the most used argument for his cold ruthlessness.
As for Geet, with respect to how Maan met her , and perceived her - she was another rustic ,over-dramatic, helpless ,conservative punjabi female- first impression.(again, the goon scene, the drowning scene)
Headstrong and unthinking(when she tries to run away with his jeep even though she doesn't know how to drive), stubborn complicated(seems to be meeting with her boyfriend even though the family does not approve)-
fiery and a fighter-(the way she answers him back whenever he tried to put her down, the land dispute)..
All this in the first couple of meetings. So there itself He knows she's not what she looks, and hes inexplicably drawn to her no matter how hard he struggles against it.
Then slowly he gets to know her better and ...
Maan is extreme. So when we see him fall for her, marry her, we see again that side- when hes in love, hes in love. Nothing exists apart from that.He has given in to that extraordinary woman completely.. and Geet is extraordinary as he gets to know of her struggles and her undaunted spirit, right? .. right.
As for Geet- here is the treatment we see that's different. When the show started, it started with exploring Maans character as it was, and the transformation of Geet's character with the cataclysmic events of her life.
We got to see how Maan would be in a normal situation, and how Geet would be in a dire situation.
Now its the reverse.. Now we get to see who Geet really is, as an ordinary person, a wife in love with her husband who suddenly seems to have turned a stranger overnight.
And Maan, we get to see, grappling with the biggest , most numbing shock of his life- married! and married to someone whom he doesn't even want to acknowledge, let alone know or understand.
He wakes up and he sees her, being shoved right in his face. Under-educated(in comparision to him), none too smart, clumsy, small town, conservative, annoying, not-too-much-class, interfering female. He has absolutely nothing in common with her or her background. He has no patience or tolerance for her.
And she seems to be taking too many liberties with him- holding on to his arm, arguing , shouting even... nah. It must have choked him.
And then this person who he looks down upon, suddenly turns out to be his wife. His LOVE.
This Maan Singh Khurana would not even stand for the 'L' word to be mentioned anywhere around him, and hes slapped in the face with this story of his sickly sweet romance with the same girl ho it seems is his WIFE.
Damn if that isnt the rudest shock to he system.
Maan never fell for Geets regular punjabi girl routine, no. (Like Dev fell for Nandini).. He fell FOR A LOT MORE.
THIS Maan knows nothing of it. why would he not suddenly HATE her for ruining his life, for destroying his identity, for invading his space, and that too when he can find no reason for even tolerating her presence let alone like or love.
It must be torture for him to try and adjust with someone who he feels is so mismatched with him, who is a totally ordinary unworthy female. He thus will hate her for it. For now being forced to live with her, accept her.
I myself cannot imagine accepting Geet when I put myself in his shoes.
On the other hand, Geet is being completely normal. You still cannot expect her to start behaving like when she did when they first met. That time they were strangers. He was wrong in going about things, and totally at fault for assuming stuff and belittling her. Thus she had no problem in standing up for herself.
Besides she was in that zone from having rebelled so hard against her family. This was the phase where Geet was discovering herself.
But now she's evolved into who she is. And she knows Maan is not at fault. No one is. She only sees her husband who will come around in a little time.
Only when Maan said those unforgivable things did she understand how mush he resents her, how truly uncertain they are about when his memory will be back , if ever.. and how much of it will be back...
Its a very tough thing to accept and live with.. she grieving at what she lost.. and her loss is huge.. you just cant bounce back from it.
Its only his gradual temper that will make her see him not as her husband alone but ALSO as a stranger who needs to be minded for his misbehavior..
even now, when he was asleep, she could relate to him, lovingly spoke with him, cause she still cant dissociate the image of her husband from the man..
This harshness and directness of his was required to wake Geet up to the fact that indeed hes a stranger now..
As for the memory track.. Maan is still in the process of gaining control.. in and around him. He has to first fully understand his hatred for her.. understand that the intensity with which he hates her is irrational.. he has to learn to adapt to a lot of things..
This is his biggest battle in life.. just like Geets was- in the beginning.. and he'll need the time because Maan SIngh Khurans' biggest drawback is his obstinacy to not let go of grudges..
The more vicious he is, the more venom he spews, the more hes pitted against her(I assume NT will be crucial in aggravating him against Geet), the more she'll be able to come out of her funk and start reacting..
This is how their interaction should grow, this is how Maan will be on the discovering curve, discovering her and himself all over again... this is when passion will strike when their true personalities crash with equal force of conviction..
That is why we need time.. flashbacks and all at this time would be a waste of a wonderful opportunity to tell the story of falling in love again, of this striking couple... Flashbacks would be too easy and will take away from the intensity and emotional quotient of this equation..
So sit back and enjoy the beautiful and sensitive treatment being given to this track.😍
I just hope I made enough sense.😕
(believe it when I say- I try really hard to not open a new topic, or at least not make it a wordy rubble of muddled emotions.. and how I fail
blame it on maan-Geet- that try as I might I cannot just sit back without trying to put my views across when their characters are questioned
and blast it-- you ve lost it just as I have if you made it this far, alive..😆 )
