Even RS's last track was more graceful than the best points of this serial. If you had none of the Jagirdar/Vrinda portion, and started the serial @ the point that Dadaji discovers Neeraj & Sandhya, the 3 month serial that resulted, while sometimes painful to watch, would still have been more entertaining. It wouldn't have made much sense, but it would still have been more fun than BAVD: even in her mahaan roop, Sandhya never put anybody else in the family above Neeraj once they married.
Vik, RkR @ #2 was on the finale date - Sunday, which is why technically, it fell into last week. I watched the episode where Naman Shaw surfaced and danced (I missed the one that had Sneha). After he was gone, I switched channels and returned to it half an hour b4 it was supposed to end, just to see who the winner was. So that day was a spike, but if you look @ the overall RkR TRPs, they had been mediocre throughout.
BBGC is doing fine, but as one person on that forum commented, Sarika isn't doing some ordinary course, she's doing an MBBS where she'll need to deal w/ live people, and that would require her studying overtime, but now, they've decided to throw in this family w/ its plethora of vraths so that she can only continue to study by doing all her bahu duties as well b4 leaving. What a load of hogwash. I liked the last episode, where her anatomy teacher challenges her to pay more attention to her coursework than her name on her application form.
Preeto looked more like a chick flick, and some of the attitudes, particularly the step-mom as well as the eldest short fat sister who thinks the world will come to an end if she doesn't somehow marry, really put me off. I guess the show will have Ankita's and Redij's followers, but as a story, so far, it seems lame. Essentially, we'll have to see 3 marriage tracks, maybe 5 if they decide that they want to marry off the youngest 2 college goers. But I watch it just b'cos it follows DBSK.
I can't comment on Dharampatni (another wife show - how original!!!), but on LD, which it's replacing, I watched some episodes this week, and it illustrated the mentality of the CVs. Abhinav, who's still grieving over his dead wife, has still not accepted his marriage to Billo (since he was already married when he married her, and so he regards that marriage as illegal, and a sham to try and save his now dead wife). It's Karva chauth, and Billo asked him to return from his office trip in 2 days, so that he can break her fast. Abhinav asks her not to observe it for him, but she refuses. Anyway, Abhinav leaves, and Billo does a lot of drama to keep observing that fast, while one of her aunts is curious about what she's there for, and eager to expose her (nobody in Abhinav's family knows that Billo is his wife). Also, another aunt of Abhinav refuses to fast, mocking the idea that it somehow elongates the spouse's life. Later on, it turns out that ultimately, she does fast, and tells everyone that Billo convinced her of the error of her ways 😕 So according to the CVs, all women should follow such vraths regardless of whether they believe them or not. 🤔 But even that vrath-taking hasn't saved this serial. Oh, and incidentally, Billo still wants to stick to that sham marriage instead of accepting the new guy Ronit, who's fallen for her. Typical!
Shani Dev has really batted well since the Ramayan times, and is still great. Incidentally, I caught the last episode (I don't often get to watch it) and instead of usual medeaval or modern stories, it had one of Raja Ambrisha. This story is actually a classic story (I read about it in the ACK Tales of Vishnu), where the story goes as described (don't remember the Holi bit) but where Vishnu himself, not Shani, intervenes and punishes Durvasha. Incidentally, I've always disdained Durvasha among the sages, and this incident, as well as the one where he forced Lakshman to separate from Rama & then die, makes me a die-hard Durvasha hater.
There was some argument in the DBSK forum about whether Imagine is the best channel for it, compared to StarPlus or Colors. I'm not sure - like in the Ramayan, when Imagine went into Uttarkand, they asked the Sagars to wind up the serial when it became boring w/ the Vidhi ka Vidhan adventures of Luv & Kush.
One thing - I can understand Shani Dev & Shri Krishna protecting the channel (although Ram-ji hasn't been able to repeat what he originally did in the 7pm rerun slot). But Chandragupta? I didn't know that he had any divine powers - all he had was a very cunning advisor who helped guide him to success. (In terms of TV shows, I do know what you mean, however)
So Vik, why are we still here? I've decided to spend all my time in DBSK forum - at least, that way, I don't microwave my blood, and when I see outrageous things on that show, I can at least contrast that w/ what originally/really happened (as per the scriptures), rather than get steamed @ fictional characters. I might drop into other places now & then, but otherwise, for now, that's the show for me. Given the number of things that went on in Krishna's life, this should last as long as Shani Dev.
