Tell us more about your character in Odhani'
I am a model, who has come to Mumbai with huge ambition and big dreams. I want to achieve something in the fashion industry. I am confident, straightforward, and full of life. I am a tomboy outside, but deep inside, I have some secrets, grief and pain, which I don't let out.
Why did you choose this role in Rang Badalti Odhani?
I got a call from the producer of the show, Mr. Yash Patnaik, and after hearing about the character, I felt that Khushi is very similar to me in real life. I felt it would be fun to do a role like that on TV. I hope it turns out to be the best role of my career.
How different is Shoonali (Madhurima) from Khushi, your character?
There is no difference between both of us, and that's the main reason I am enjoying playing this role on the show. I guess, perhaps, it is very important for any actor to be comfortable in a role, irrespective of the fact that it is similar to their personality or not. At times, it is challenging to do a role that is totally new and different, and at times, it is challenging to play a role similar to yourself.
How was your first meeting with Khanak?
My first meeting with Khanak was not good. In the first meeting itself, she irritated me a lot. She is a behenji herself, but she kept calling me a behenji. I mean, look at her attitude!
What do you like about her?
Though my first meeting with her didn't go well, somewhere, I loved her innocence and simplicity.
Will you share your grief with her in the coming days?
I have no clue, but if she shares her personal thoughts or worries about her life, then I will definitely tell her my sorrows too. I believe in give-and-take in a relationship.
What do you think of room-mates and living in close proximity?
It varies from person to person. Some people might be comfortable living with a room-mate, while others might not. It is crucial to have some space of your own in a city like Mumbai, and at times, you have to share your space with your room-mates. It's common among roommates to fight. As life progresses, though, most times, these roommates become best buddies too. I think if we work on our goals and our lives, and not interfere with our room-mate's life, there shouldn't be any differences.
What qualities would you want in a room-mate?
I am glad that my room-mate Khanak has the qualities I wanted. She is simple and innocent, which I think is cool, as there is no harm in being simple. She doesn't wake me up early in the morning, as I love to sleep. So, I think we should be fine.
In real life, have you ever had a room mate? Please share the experience.
Oh yes, I have had room-mates. I remember, I was staying as a paying guest in Mumbai when I began my career. I can't give details about who my roommate was or where I used to stay, but I remember when our money would trickle down, we would survive on bread and achaar (pickle) for days. I can never forget those days!
What are your plans for your career?
I want to become a supermodel. I want to win many awards for my style. I just want all the success in the glamour world.
What do you like about Rang Badalti Odhani?
The show appeals to the youngsters. All characters have good comic timing. The romance between Shaan and Khanak and their chemistry are fabulous. I am glad to know that Rang Badalti Odhani is not a typical daily soap with high drama.
What kind of feedback are you expecting from the fans of Odhani?
I am expecting a positive feedback from the fans of the show. With new characters and setting, I am just hoping the audiences love me as much as they love Shantanu and Khanak.
How is it working with your new co-stars - especially with Khanak and Adi?
It's nice to work with both of them. Both Khanak and Adi are very professional. I am enjoying my working hours on the sets of the show.
Why did you change your name from Madhurima to Shoonali?
I am starting a new chapter of my career, so I decided to change my name. I feel the name Madhurima was outdated, and I decided to call myself Shoonali, which I feel is perfect for me, and suits me a lot.
