Seeing Gaurav and Karan's interaction today reminded me of Brokeback Mountain. Before I saw Brokeback Mountain I used to find it difficult to aknowledge homosexual relations and used to be uncomfortable in their comapnany. But the movie changed my perspective. The love between Ennis and Jack made me see things differently it was so pure and real. Their love story just made me realise how difficult it is for them come out of their closet. How some gays can't come out in the open and have to live double lives forever and constantly battle with the contradictions within themselves. I hope the cvs can deal with such a sensitive issue carefully and make people aware so that homosexuality can be acceptable more easily in the Indian society. I hope the cast too act like Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal and bring depth in their character so that their character can be remembered for a long time. Both Gaurav and Karan need to play their characters with conviction and cvs this story has potential please don't ruin it like the other stories and make a mockery and disgust of the love those two share

Oh Damon...could not agree more. Brokeback Mountain is one of my all time favorite movies...such a poignant love story. 😭 The last scene of that movie is etched in my heart...how could one watch that movie and not be impacted by how hard it is for gay people to come out in a world that is filled with folks just waiting to rip them apart.

Coming to Maryaada, I hope the writers here keep all the various perspectives in mind when they develop this track. There is Gaurvav, Vidya and Devyani primarily but also that of the rest...mainly Brahma, Aditya & Babuji! The complexity of this issue is one of the reasons why I hoped the writers would not go down this path...and, I was hoping that at least one of the women could have a shot at a storybook happy ending. That said, since the makers have had the courage to go down a path that even the so-called kingpins of B-Town have not, I have to applaud them again and again. 👍🏼 Every human deserves to be treated equally irrespective of their choices or sexual orientation and I hope the sensitivity and depth with which the writers handle this track makes some of the audience see the gay community differently.

Mine too and my reaction is exactly like yours at the end 😭 The last scene of that movie is etched in my heart...how could one watch that movie and not be impacted by how hard it is for gay people to come out in a world that is filled with folks just waiting to rip them apart.

I know what you mean. They know that at times they will be ridiculed by their own family. Infact at times people get beaten by their own family if they find out about their sexual preferences. I am a lecturer and i have come across homosexual students who had to leave their homes as they were at risk of being beaten brutally by their folks when the family find out about they were not straight

I don't want to look like who enjoys gay love stories but I want the cvs to go down this story line as it would be new. TV would bring such ideas into every ones living room and people would be more tolerant towards the gay community. I also have to say I kind have given up on anything changing in the lives of the lead women. They have strarted to irritate the hell out of me especailly Uttra's naivety. It is really difficult to digest the gullibility of the woman. That said, since the makers have had the courage to go down a path that even the so-called kingpins of B-Town have not, I have to applaud them again and again. 👍🏼 Agree with that the cvs have shown the courage to show such a bold love story and I am hoping they show it to be a genuine relation. Usually hindi cinema or tv tries to show homosexual relations very crudely with no emotion. Mostly it is disgusting to watch they way they project the gay community or one has a good laugh. But seems like the cvs won't go down that line and will provide an emotional angle to the Gaurav and Karan story which will be good juts like BM😉 Every human deserves to be treated equally irrespective of their choices or sexual orientation 👏and I hope the sensitivity and depth with which the writers handle this track makes some of the audience see the gay community differently. For that the media will have to stop making a mockery of gays by making the likes of Bobby Darling drool over any guy they see. They need to show some maturity in their relation.

great post damon_biteme and very nice opinion by darlunia. Brokeback Mountain is one of my favorites. I agree with what both of you said.
However, I feel it will be a gigantic challenge to portray the kind of love and relationship that Ennis and Jack shared. Plus, I still feel that the Indian society is at least several decades behind in terms of even being comfortable acknowledging/accepting homosexuality. It is simply appalling to me how closed we are (Indian society) as a society.
I was reading this one article that mentioned Baba Ramdev's opinion where he said that homosexuals are sick people and the only place for them is hospitals. I didn't even want to even waste my time and energy trying to refute or discuss baba ramdev's opinion. And that is also the opinion held my most Indians.
One of my very close friends from my undergraduate days in India came out to his parents. His mom was fortunately very accepting. But, his dad has almost shunned him. Needless to say, my friend is very happy and successful in both his personal and professiona lives.
Coming back to Maryada, I hope DJ creations (Deeya and Tony Singh) make sure that this track gets serious attention to details rather than making it all about sexual attraction between two males. and yeah, I was watching the show in youtube. I really liked how they have actually showed Gaurav to be a very masculine character rather than stereotypical gay characters mostly shown in Indian movies or Indian television (Example, movie Dostana was such a crap and does little to nothing to change people's opinion about gays).
Anyways, GOOD JOB both damon_biteme and darlunia. 👏

However, I feel it will be a gigantic challenge to portray the kind of love and relationship that Ennis and Jack shared. I know what you mean but tust me I will be happy if Gaurav and Karan can do half the amount good work Ennis and Jack did. Plus, I still feel that the Indian society is at least several decades behind in terms of even being comfortable acknowledging/accepting homosexuality. It is simply appalling to me how closed we are (Indian society) as a society. I know what you mean. I have two gay friends one is a white male and the other is an Indian woman. The guy is quite open about his sexual orientation but the girl who is almost 30 years independent still is hiding from her own family. The parents are just nagging her to get married. She can't tell them as she will disowned by the family and this in the UK where gays can get into a civil partnership.

That is exactly I know what you mean, the first day they introduced his character he was exercising and he made a call which was kept quite secretive. Thats when i thgt he could be gay but never thgt that indian telly had the guts to show such a bold concept but i glad they have gone down that lane and like you happy that Gaurav's character is not the stereotypical gay characters shown in Indian telly or movie. You nailed it correctly. When gays are picturised like the way they were in Dostana people have good laugh at their cost as its just onscreen but in real life won't have any respect for them and if they ever came across a gay they wouldn't even touch them with a barge pole allow being polite to them. In media gays need to be shown like normal human being with feeling like any one of us. Just because they have different sexaul preferences doesn't mean they have no feelings. Once again kudos to the Maryad team for showing this👏
Anyways, GOOD JOB both damon_biteme and darlunia. 👏 Thank you
