Introduction

Ahem sat back in his seat in the first class section of the plane and thanked god he wasn't sitting next to Jigar and his chatterbox wife. He could still hear her talking, but that wasn't his headache, Jigar is one who will have to listen to her useless talk for next eight hour or so.

He thought about his mom, he wished she had joined him, it had been his wish to bring her along on this trip and show her around as he knew his papa will never take his mom anywhere.

He opened his eyes and looked out the window. Had he done the right thing? His mom had been so disappointed to hear he wasn't taking his wife, but her to Switzerland, and now because of his stupidity, even his mom was not with him.

Really what could have hurt to book an extra ticket for Gopi, its not as if he dosen't have to tolerate her for rest of his life anyways, thanks to his mom. He doesn' know what makes his mom cling to the girl.

That's not true Ahem, you do know what makes your mom cling to the girl, you just don't want to admited to yourself.

He took a deep breath and leaned his head back and closed his eyes again, he wished he could open his laptop or his blackberry, anything to escape his runaway thoughts, but that's not to be, all electronics have to be shut off for now.

So yes he did know his mom loved Gopi, like her own child, and he suspects his mom loved her Gopi vahu even more than him.

Oh my god Ahem Modi! Are you jealous of a slip of a girl? Is that what make you act the way you do?

He wished his voice would shut up, he was so not jealous of Gopi, its just that he missed all the attention his mom showered on him, these days it was all about Gopi.

Ok Ahem Modi, you are a business man you have to think logically. It is obvious that your mom is not going to let go of Gopi, so now you have to learn to live with her.

He doesn't know what to do anymore, but he knows today he hurt both of them, his mom and Gopi.

The last time he had hurt Gopi, by not refusing to eat breakfast, had been bad enough, but this time it felt worst, he won't even be able to go back to make sure she was ok.

He flashed back to that day, he didn't know what had made him turn, but instincts told him to turn and look back, and that lone tear on her cheek, that she had wiped off queitly had made his heart clench, he had actually felt bad that he had hurt her feelings once again.

But then the whole Sandook fiasco, which she was unable to win, which had in return hurt his mom had made him angry, and once again lash out at her.

Then the birthday fiasco, and he here he is again, feeling bad, because no matter how much he blames her, truth of the matter is none of it is her fault.

It was he who chose to marry her, no if and buts about it. If had loved Anita, nothing would have stopped him from making her his, not even his mom.

He ruined his own life, and that of Aninta, Gopi and even Kinjle.

So now he needs to think about what needs to be done to move forward, he can't stay in the past, if he did he will die a early death, from all the stress.

Back at Modi Mansion, Koki was running around making arrangement for her and Gopi to go to Switzerland the very next day. She didn't want to wast time.

Gopi watched her sasu ma run her and there trying to get everything ready. She wished she had courage to stand up and say, Maji forget it, I don't want to go to Switzerland, I don't even want to stay in Modi Bhavan, I want to leave before Ahemji comes back.

Gopi sighed and leaned against the door, Gopi knew she couldn't deny this trip for her mother in law, she had seen the look on Ahemji's face before he left, he was hurt and dissappointed his mom refused to go, she even knew why Ahemji wanted to take maji, because their papaji had never taken maji anywhere, and Ahemji had wanted to do this for his mom, and she is going to help him fulfill his wish.

She will not deny her maji this one last thing, maji shouldn't be deprived of this opportunity because of her. Maji wants her to go, so she will go, but she promised herself that she would stay out of Ahemji's way.

Today she had finally realized that she will never be able to win Ahemji's heart, and its best if she left. In order for her to leave she is going to have to talk to maji, but not yet, once they get to Switzerland, she will have her heart to heart with Maji and make her promise not to stop her from leaving once they get back.

Part 1

While Gopi and Koki were on their way to Switzerland, Ahem had finally reached his room. He decided to keep the two bedroom suit with living area and a small kitchenette, that he had originally booked, beside the hotel had no other single rooms left anyways.

He was once again thanking god Jigar and Rashi were on another floor, he couldn't take another minute of Rashi, she hadn't shut up all the way from airport to hotel, oohing and aahing over every little thing.

He threw his jacket on the couch and moved to the window and leaned against it to see the view outside, everything looked so beautiful, once again wishing his mom could see this, he sighed and promised himself one day he would send his parents here.

He wanted to see his mom happy, hence the solution to dilemma of what to do about Gopi.

His mom is determined to keep them together, so be it. He would do anything for his mom, he had married the girl didn't he, and his mom was right about one thing, Gopi is a person not a thing, to be moved from here to there, she has feelings too, she too gets hurt.

He decided once he gets back home first he will have a heart to heart with his mom and assure her that he would accept Gopi in his life, but he will need time. He will have to control his temper and irritations with her. He needed to get to know her as a person, and not be mad at her all the time.

His going to have to change his whole attitude towards her. If he were to be honest with himself, he would admit, that he actually admired her courage, her sweetness and her giving nature. She had looked out for the family before they were even married.

He had a flash back of her saving his Kaki's life without any regards to her own life, she had saved him from snake once again without anydisregard to her own life.

She had made her mother proud at the dandya competiton and at the cricket challange. And her biggest contribution had been handling the situation during Kinjle's wedding fiasco, if it hadn't been for her quick thinking, Modi Parivar reputation would have been in shambles.

Now he needs to talk to her also and find out what makes her act the way she does somtimes. At times she is so muture and smart, but sometimes she makes the stupidest mistakes, he needs to know what made her do that.

As for her not being educated and all the other things that's going to have to come later, but first he has to get to know her as a person.

He now felt at peace, he had finally come to a some what of a solution, once he gets back and get this contract, he will work on his marriage and family.

Next morninig Ahem woke up when his cell phone started to ring, When he anwsered he was surprised to hear his mom's voice on the other side. What was more surprising was she was asking him to come to the airport and quick. She hung up the phone before he could ask her anything else.

Ahem called the desk and asked them to have car ready in fifteen minutes to take him to the airport and got out of bed to get ready.

When he got to the airport he saw his mom standing outside at the curve, what surprised him more was the person standing beside her, he couldn't believe she had brought Gopi with her, he didn't know how to react.

Gopi was standing beside Koki shaking like leaf, not from cold, but from anticipation of Ahem's reaction, once he sees that she had accompanied his mother.

Ahem stood still and looked at his mother first, who was was giving him a look that said, I dare you to say something, then he glanced at Gopi who was looking down and nervously twisting her fingers, she glanced at him once and quickly looked away.

He bent and got his mothers blessings and said "Jai Shree Krishna Mom."

Koki blessed him and said "Jai shree Krishna Ahem dikra." Watching him closely.

Ahem once again glanced at Gopi then picked up their bags and walked towards the car.

No words were exchanged between the three passengers of the car while they drove towards the hotel.

Once they got to the hotel they went straight to their suite, Ahem didn't wait for his mother to instruct him on where to put Gopi's bag, he automatically took it to his room and took Koki's bag to her room.

If Koki was surprised by his behavior she didn't show it, and continued to watch him closely with narrowed eyes.

Gopi on the other hand did not know what to think or feel. All she knew was that he hadn't yelled or lost his temper. He didn't even question maji as to why she brought Gopi along with her.

She was brought out of her thought when Koki told her to freshen up and rest for a while, she nodded her head towards Koki and walked towards the room that Ahem had disappeared to.

Gopi hesitated outside the door, then took a deep breath and thought now or never, she had to tell him why she came along with Koki before he starts yelling at her.

Ahem was standing by the desk, reading a file when she entered the room, he glanced at her once and went back to the file.

Now that she was here, he might as well put his plan in motion to get to know her. He put the file down and looked at her.

"Gopi...

"Ahemji...

Both started to speak at the same time.

Gopi looked away first, Ahem, "You were saying?"

Gopi chewed her lip then began talking little hesitantly at first, "who mein...I just wanted to say that I only came because maji said she would come here only if I came with her, and I knew how much you wished to bring her here, that's why I agreed to come along with her. But don't worry I will stay out of your way, I know you don't want me here."

When Ahem didn't respond, she continued talking. "I also wanted to say that once we return to India, I will be leaving Modi Bhavan, don't worry I will talk to maji, and convince her to let me go."

Ahem couldn't believe it just when he had decided to get to know her, she wants to leave, before he could respond his cell phone rang.

He went to anwser it, it was Jigar to remind him that they had a meeting with the company's director to go over the proposal.

By the time he finished with the phone call, Gopi had already gone into the bathroom. He decided to talk to her later as he was getting late for the meeting.

He went to his mom's room to let her know where he would be for the day, and they shouldn't worry if he is late. He told her to go shop for some warmer clothes for them, and where to order food from, his mother assured him that they would be ok and he shouldn't worry, she will take care of everything.

He glanced towards his room one more time before he left.
