Random Musings: April 20, 2011

Another filler episode but here's what stood out for me today.

Episode started with Aditya sleeping and Brahma trying to get him out to prevent the couple from spending time together. I still do not like the writers having Priya be single minded about trying to consummate the relationship as the couple's problems have nothing to do with it but everything to do with Aditya's impulsive nature and a lack of any real communication. Still, with Brahma determined to drive a wedge between the two, the honeymoon moves the story forward to Priya's real issue I guess. That said, I liked Brahma's words to Priya while they were talking...😆. SasurPig at his confident villainous best!

Meanwhile, Vidya's English mutterings in her sleep wakes Gaurav up while Devyani lays in her bed fixated on Uttara's making the saag better than her. The Vidya scene was kinda cute but I dislike the cliched "behenji turns hip" makeover plot! 🤔 Why could the writers not have Vidya focus on Gaurav's words about Arthi being educated and well read instead of just be obsessed about the appearance 😳. Coming to Devyani, clearly the writers are starting down the path of making her feel inadequate. This track could work beautifully if the writers do not build it in to a Devyani misunderstanding Uttara story only. Devyani's way of dealing with her abuse is to run the perfect home. Her skills as a home-maker is the one thing Brahma's verbal abuse has not been able to erode away. But with Uttara catching both Brahma's lustful eye and garnering praise for her cooking, Devyani is starting to stare her demons in the face. This still does not mean that she can be shown completely mistaking her own sister's intentions...that would be very hard to swallow.

Daybreak finds a clearly upset Devyani in the kitchen testing her saag recipe as she prepared breakfast for the family. I loved this sequence...this is the writing that has been missing in the show for a while. The unsaid emotions and insecurities that Devyani's feeling was poignant to watch...especially her admission to Babuji that she could not bear something changing her respectability as she had nothing else. Beautifully executed. 👍🏼

The rest of the episode including the Priya - Devyani conversation in the middle of the night was mostly filler except for the growing Uttara - Devyani dynamics at breakfast. From the precap, I expect Priya to use Brahma's interference to her benefit in tomorrow's episode and end up going to Goa with Aditya for their honeymoon...but I have to say I am disappointed. I was hoping that a "smart" Priya would think two steps ahead and plan for the eventuality that Brahma would find out about the Shimla plans.

Overall: Its ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ from me.

So today's episode, I'm just blatantly ignoring the AdiYa part in the beginning, and the Priya - SSP conversation. They just don't seem to add anything new. Ever.

Gaurav-Vidya's was cute, it definitely provided some laughs and although I'm usually not too keen on the entire appearance changing and education kicking in spiel, I'm actually liking the way this is coming out. This Gaurav-Vidya angle has tons of potential, with and without Arti, and so I hope they make the most use of it. And I really am dying to know what this second secret of Gaurav's is. -_-

Devyani. Devyani. Devyani. She was the entire episode for me today. And I loved it. Her insecurities truly shined through today and like you said, the entire saag scene was one worth watching. Bauji's talk with her, where she expressed her feelings about her kitchen, her respectability, and how essentially that's the one thing she had some sort of control over, but even that seems to be slipping away because of Uttara. And you're right, I don't want to see a huge Devyani-Uttara blowup, but I think the way they're taking it, there will definitely be some sort of misunderstanding that is created. Devyani's trust in her younger sister will definitely weaken to such a point where she does believe that her sister is having an affair with her husband. And honestly, although I wouldn't be a fan, I would understand it. It seems natural that any woman put in that situation will reach the point where trust is down the drain and suspicion is soaring high.

But at the end of the episode, what a blow it must have been for Devyani. I wonder what she's going to do in response to SSP's more or less order that Uttara cook for him everyday.

Overall it was a 8/10 episode for me just because I loved seeing this much of Devyani and her story after a long time. And I really thought Vidya was absolutely adorable 😆

Naina...🤗...thanks chica! I loved the Devyani - Babuji scene. So much unsaid...the sub-context was worth the value of the time spent watching the show today. I get her character feeling some degree of insecurity about Uttara but at some point her conscience needs to kick in as nobody knows her sister like she does. I really hope the writers do right by the characters they have created instead of caving in to the temptation to make it more dramatic.

I love the potential with the Gaurav track too. Just wish they would be more innovative in their writing rather than the done-to-death gaon-waali turns maam saab routine.

So coming to the post and today's epi. I agree with you to the face that its weird how the writer are showing only Priya pursuing comsumation. To me it seems really out of context that Aditya isn't pursuing it one bit. I like how Maryada is more realistic and shows the love making scenes, it makes it sooo different from the rest of the dramas, where they show it once and that's it, and the girl is pregnant after like 2 days, but that is besides the point, lol. But i would expect Aditys to pursue it more aggressively, as he has been shown quite passionately before marrige. I know hw is trying to make Priya feel comfortable, but I dont think the girl can spell it out more from him, lol.

I also like the Priya-Brahama angle love their talks with each other. yeah Priya is more patient with Adi as he is influnced by Brahana. But the night he went out with his friends, that was just uncalled for, yes his father arranged something for him with his friends, atleast he could have told her before going.

Anyway that's my bit, sorry if i went inappropriate for some people, i though since it is related to the subject, it would be acceptable.

@Indigo...thank you! I'm Jaya...what's your name? For all my problems with Aditya's characterization, I like that he places Priya's needs before his own. I know what you mean about the birthday night that he went out with his buddies...it was highly screenplay convenient. 🤔 Hope to see you back and more active on the forum. 😊

I really like the Devyani-Bauji scene, they're always really good...bauji is sooo cute, he warms my heart!

Vidya is such a cutie herself, and I wonder why Gaurav decides to stay home but I'm sure it will bring some laughs as Vidya, Chinu & Sweety try to help Vidya on the down low with the risk of Gaurav finding them!

I really hope Uttara doesn't start warming up to Brahma, ugh. She's all like "yes jijaji yes jijaji"

I'm glad Priya was able to plan the honeymoon after all but I agree FIZ that Priya should have said something after they started driving off, but then again she probably didn't expect the SSP to come after them so fast (uhhh and wasn't he JUST eating, he finished fast...)

I wonder how they end up in Goa instead?!

Can't wait for the upcoming episodes! :) Hoping for more Vidya scenes and cute Adiya scenes :)
