BW cinema is much better now.....just because it is attempting new topics....it's not all love stories, not all mindless comedies and not all revenge action stories. There is a good deal of variety. What is lacking well BW cinema always lacked ...is writing and some depth. When someone makes a movie like Guzaarish, you expect the characters not to be theatrical but real. When you talk about relationships and space, you don't expect life to be so easy and DDLJish as it's shown in BKB....you make a film like Raavan you cannot miscast and write a faulty script! I feel more than anything I have been disappointed with films this year....I expected so much better because the concepts of the movies sounded so good....but they turned out fluffy! sad!

I think the junta just wants something simple and not over-the-top with the locales and such. They also generally want solid scripts instead of pretty actors in the latest (western) designer wear even though some of the scripts for the hit movies were meh. But overall, they want to watch something Indian.

true...even if such "love stories" and "rom coms" are targeted towards youngsters...i dunt see how any youngster living in india would relate to a muvie about someone living in newyork roaming around times square and driving down to vegas while wearing chirsten doir, prada and chanel....
wouldn't they relate better to a movie wherein the youngsters roam around in local trains or scootys, go watch muvies at PVR and have chaat in the street corner? there seriously should be more muvies about simple, real ppl....

not that im saying therz anything wrong with shooting abroad....its fine if u wanna make muvies on NRI's...take a muvie like namesake...which was majorly shot in the US...it was rooted in indian sensibilities, and was so realistic....the conservative and doting parents, the culture confused children, the parents missing their homeland....isnt that wht NRI's would relate better to rather than the glossed up artificial affairs that bollywood usually serves up??

...i know we cannot expect every film to be realistic..and most of the times escapism is all we need...but that cannot be an excuse for all the shallowness of the muvies in this genre.even aisha and IHLS were shot in india mostly...but they were soo shallow because no one can relate to such over-privileged youngsters whose life moves from one party to another...
..i'd be soo happy if ppl make more jab we mets instead of aishas or anjaana anjaanis....all gloss and no substance makes bollywood a sad place...

like someone said, there were great, good, bad and ugly, 2010 was a mixed year, yes what we expected from (over)hyped films like kites and raavan we got much less, but 2010 was a good year for Indian Cinema according to me

Indian cinema hasn't grown yet because if brilliant film like udaan and novel films like tere bin laden,do dooni char, phas gaye obama flopped or had no takers we still have a lot to grow.
