to only feel good, Happy endings or comedies. Why cant a person be entertained with a sober, tragic story if it is well narrated.
I thought about this today after I finally saw Guzaarish. After reading the innumerable reviews on how the movie was not entertaining and what not., I was wondering if the movie would be entertaining and I was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. It was a well narrated and a well told story .
I dont understand if people can sit through a mindless comedy like golmaal 3, no entry and the likes then whats wrong in being entertained by a story which is sober and tragic in nature. I guess it comes down to choices but still thats another little bias that I found in Bollywood.
I admire slb for making a movie like guzaarish. I am tired of watching the same run of the mill love stories with immature adults and the same cheesy love scenes and dialogues. Thats why this year my 3 fav movies has been
Udaan, oce upon a time in Mumbai and guzaarish and I would like to add Aisha too purely coz the movie showed the lead to be completely flawed and did make it a point to say it and didnt justify her actions and its treatment was different.
lastly, the best actor has to go to hrithik this year in my opinion. His performance was just excellent. I only saw ethan the character and not hrithik the star. The guy was phenomenal, kudos to him for doing such a challenging role irrespective of whether it was commercial or not.
2nd choice ajay devgan or ronit roy even for udaan, stand out performances. They may never get it but they were the best in my opinion until now.

I think that the Indian junta just prefers comedy over all else, something that they can just laugh and have a good time with. Comedy is my favorite too when its well-written; Housefull wasn't funny because you could tell they were stretching the humor. That doesn't mean that the audience prefers dumb-downed stuff, otherwise movies like Devdas and Black would not have been successful. Kal Ho Na Ho also had a very sophisticated use of humor that's not really found in bollywood movies today.

Also people are aware of SLB's Saawariya and how it tanked and they don't want to repeat that experience again (sort of like Ram Gopal Verma after his "Aag"). In the promos, the movie seemed eerily similar in style to Saawariya and that possibly could have turned the audience off. I haven't seen the film myself, but Hrithik does seem to be on his A game (or maybe A+ game).

How I wish unknown actors in bollywood got their due though, like Ronit Roy😊

depends on people's mood, i suspect... i usually avoid movies that are too slow in pace, especially because my little ones are forever wanting my attention... 😆😆 i am quite impatient, so yes, i dunno how i would have liked guzaarish... i think it'll be good for a one time watch... haven't seen it though, nor have any inclination to watch it anytime soon...
but i saw golmaal 3 over the holidays with my family... it was a laugh riot and we had fun... just because a movie is based on a socially relevant subject, does not mean it's great and just because a movie relies on humour (or mindless humour to some), does not the movie is crap...
depends on people's circumstances and what their taste is... i do like some movies that have a sad ending... but most of those are old movies... bolly really has lost it's charm...!
