I think for filmy Bolly songs a very good voice quality is needed especially for the ladies. Most weird and strange voices will not suit the leading actors and actress.
But in modern times the trend could slowly change.
Classical songs need special training but a not so perfect voice quality will be acceptable.
Ghazals too need a nice special sentimental touch.
A perfect voice classically trained is ideal like Shreya.

I guess all music lessons are clasically based training but some may take it further and specialize in deeply classicals.
I noticed Sher Ali, Ranjeet, Sniti were not able to fully handle the filmy songs. They would need to practise more on these too.

i agree! once your have a foundation in classical, you can learn many genres, but it can happen that you can get soo heavily trained that it's hard to sing other genres. this is what happens to me in western music. i have mild classical training there, and i struggle with modern music. i get the pitches and rhythms but the style is not right.

I think classicals need full time dedication and hard work, either you have it or not.
But keen interest is also important as some find classicals boring and too slow.

Bollywood playback voice with classical training and versatility is what makes an all round singer.

But a classical singer should also have a sweet or good voice quality. If not they cannot handle Bollywood.
They say that if you are a good person your voice too will start getting better and better.
No wonder Rafi Sahab was magical.

Once classically sound, filmy songs can be sung by no matter whom.
Same is the case of Shreya Goshal too - classically trained, great voice, perfect pitch and a wonderful singer.
As for the voice quality, with classical training the tonal and pitch quality change esp if trained from a very young age. And then there is the 'naturally gifted' voice⭐️
Subha Mudgal and Kishori Amonkar don't exactly have the sugary sweet voice nor the nasal twang - its unique and lovely - feels that way because they're calssically sound!!

This is not true they are all capable of singing any songs and just by the way what are the real filmy songs - you don't classify RFK and NFAK as filmy even though they have sung quiet a few?
