hey
well pure classical isn't mainstream music atall...not everyone can train their voices so hard to be able to pull off pure ragas etc....thats why all the pandits and ustads stick to classical....its not like they cant sing bolly numbers
but on the other hand very few songs in bollywood actually require any hardcore classical training...ofcourse it would be a bonus but its not that essential....starting from kishore koomar to udit naryan to koomar sanu or shaan....none of them are classically trained but they did excdptionally well in the industry
its also got to do with the kind of music one listens to....because its human nature to imitate what we see and hear...i am sure ranjeet or ali dont listen to hindi music as much as the others do....and maybe thats why they are a little shaky when it comes to singing light songs

to me its more like if you're a doctor you can easily solve A levels biology....no biggie there....doctor is classical and A level is bolly

😛

Yaah I agree with whatever you say, but I think the topic should be Filmy bolly songs AND Classical music and not FBS vs classical.
Classical music is usually for the classes and not the masses, this is a general perception. When it comes to todays indian music industry I feel Shreya ghoshal and Sonu nigam come out to be complete package, I mean they are such ideal singers, when it comes to gayaki. They are capable of singing almost any song whether traditional classical or modern style & thats Commendable.😊
Here are 2 of their gems

That's untrue. And I'm sure you know of 'successful singer[s]' who are not classically trained, so I don't even need to reel off a list of names.

Very well said - both filmi/poular and classical music have a space in people's hearts and we don't need to have a competition between them. And I agree with your point about the class/mass divide: lots of people who use music for relaxation and entertainment may not want to make the effort of listening to classical music, which can seem removed and boring.

Hey Hunk 😃
Yeah it's been a long time - summer holidays ended and I started uni so I couldn't find the time to post here but I like popping in once in a while to see how it's going. I'm good - just tired from all this work, hehe. How are you? Are you enjoying SRGMP?

Yeah, risingabove had to leave urgently unfortunately, and the singing game got stuck. SRGMP is not holding people's attention this year - they've all left. :(

People go through classical training because they feel it gives them total control of their voice and they feel more confident singing bollywood or any other songs. Several bollywood singers have no h/o any classical training and still they have been very successful. It includes names like kishore kumar, Asha Bhowsle, etc. These are god gifted people who have great voices and their songs reaches the soul.
Ultimately it comes to control and soulful singing, if you can do that with or without classical training. Some people may not pursue classical singing and they are motivated to learn singing by practicing old songs by rafi and lata. People have different ways how they practice with their voice.last but not the least you need to have some luck to succeed in bollywood.
