The only kissing I've probably ever liked in Indian Cinema is Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (also other Aamir-Juhi movies). They made it look so sweet and innocent! And nobody complained!

What's interesting to note is that the 90s film kisses seemed better than the bolly kisses nowadays. They make me cringe cuz it's like they are trying to be overly passionate and it just looks beyond bad cuz its seems unnatural imo.

One of the problems Bollywood faces is that the audience, when compared to Hollywood, is meagre, in that the movies are only released in India and have a limited release in the Indian diaspora. The whole concept of 'indie' is still quite alien to India. Well, sure there have been a few indie movies recently, but these haven't yet garnered a substantial niche audience. Movies work ONLY if they have mass appeal - they have to cater to BOTH the multiplex audience and the single screen viewers, and sex is something A LOT of us are very uncomfortable with. We don't educate kids about sex, we don't talk about it ourselves, and we definitely don't want to watch it in a theatre. And even on those few occassions when sex/kissing is involved, it's so darned forced and artificial and distastefully done, clearly intending to create hype and titilate than because it's pivotal to the story, that it makes you cringe.
Even Hollywood plays it safe. When a studio is investing somewhere in the ballpark of 150-200 million, as often as not these movies are very chaste and directed towards all age-groups - Inception, Harry Potter, LOTR, Avatar, the Batman movies/any superhero movie with lots of CGI effects/romcoms. None of these are scandalous or feature explicit sex-scenes or nudity or rampant kissing. It's the relatively small budget movies which explore sexuality and nudity, and these movies as often as not have an established audience. European and Latin American films, on the other hand, are a lot more authentic, in that they're firstly of higher quality than your average Hollywood movie. But then, Europe in general is a lot let prudish than America. I mean, nudity - full frontal or explicit nudity - is no big deal in European movie or fashion magazines, whereas in Hollywood it's mostly implied.
I think we're getting there, slowly but surely. Films of the noughties are much better and also more mature than those of the 90's, mayb e films of the 10's will blaze a trail. At least one can hope.
