Is nudity and sex still underrrated in Bollywood?

Some Bollywood movies have pushed the envelope, but I don't think it has been enough. We are never going to see anyone in Bollywood movies do full nudity or even the "real" passionate sex scenes. 🤪

But, I do think there have been a lot of movies made (the most recent one being Love Sex Aur Dhokha). Bollywood has grown up a little bit, but somehow it won't be along the lines of a old Madonna video or something even Sharon Stone did in Basic Instinct. 😆
What do you think?

Bollywoood has a lot of double standards, they can show a couple touching each other everywhere but everyone makes a huge deal out of a simple kiss. They can have item songs to titillate the male viewers but when a guy does a towel song everyone makes fun of it. I just don't get it.

A perfect example is the Hritik/Aish kiss in Dhoom 2! That kiss was nothing compared to a Hollywood film! They showed the film on Sony the other day. The kiss was edited out. Come on now! 😕 What is the big deal? I have seen more daring attempts in Hollywood like I mentioned. For example, Madonna even published a sex book of herself at one time which had naked pictures. Can someone in Bollywood do that? I want to see them try! 🐷

You do have a good point. This stuff is very true. I always thought it is weird how the Indian audience can accept actresses running around half naked and people groping each other during songs, but make a big deal out of a small kiss!! I can't believe that the police officers place obscenity charges against those people!!

Its true. I don't know, I guess with sexuality, no matter how much our culture tries to get used to it and be open about it, it'll still be a bit of a taboo-ish thing.

I think filmmakers are so bent upon having a huge box office income, many movies are advertised as family-friendly movies, so that the more people come and watch the better. In those so called family movies, the director manages to squeeze in a stupid item song or make sure the women have less words to speak, and more cleavage to show.

But if filmmakers take the plunge and put in a kiss or a nude scene, the media hypes it SO much that people tend to be all 'nah i wont watch it in a theater' to avoid the awkwardness.

just my notion >.< i could be wrong. but yes its true. though sex sells in bollywood, it'll always be veiled.

Well I am sure that there are some Bollywood movies that have had brief nudity, and I can definitely think of one movie - Maya Memsaab. But that was done in the 90's when sex and nudity were more controversial and rare. In this decade, Bollywood has pushed the envelope a lot showing skimpy outfits, bikinis, more shirtless guys, more kissing scenes, and even more sex scenes. Everything is becoming more and more westernized. Seeing the direction Bollywood is going, I have a feeling that in the next decade or two, Bollywood is going to start showing actual nudity and will start putting ratings on movies. If Hollywood shows nudity, then someday, Bollywood will do the same.

i do agree with the double standards the indian audience has...items songs get so popular that it seems to be a must to put on in every film and god forbid theres a simple kiss scene...where as in real life a kiss is alot more common than a random girl dancing in the street out of no where.
but i dont think the indian audience is ready for sex or nudity, they arent even ready for kiss scenes.
but its not their fault...in the west a kiss is very normal, every disney princess movie has a kiss. in india its more private i guess hence the whole issue with it.
as for sex and nudity...i think that doesnt work because in india all films have to be family films for some reason. In the west there are movies made for children, family, teenagers, and adults and so the audience doesnt feel the need to take the entire family to every movie.

Most films were family-oriented before, but nowadays a lot of movies are not family films - Kurbaan, Murder, Jism, Ghajini, etc. I was recently listening to an Indian radio show, and they were talking about how Bollywood films have become so racy, sexy, and revealing. A lot of callers said that they don't watch Hindi movies any more or don't watch them with their kids. They feel embarrassed watching Bollywood films with their families nowadays because of the sexiness and the bikini-clad actresses.
