Godh bharai has nothing to do with you being married or not. It is assumed in our culture and its standard that you are married if your prego, but it is a not a requirment. Godh bharai is done in the 7-8 month because that is when the baby is vaible and is finally in the safe phase. Hence if the baby is pre-mature the baby will be able to survive on its own. Therefore, its a celebration to welcome and bless the new member. The mothers lap is where a child grows and is cared for, thus it is filled with gifts, fruits and blessings as a way to bless the child. IT has nothing to do with one being married. YOU SHOULD be married if your prego as a Hindu standard or custom. But if your not, it doesn't mean that you can't have a Godh bharai. Many girls do Karva Chauth if they are engaged. They keep if for their To-be-hubby to show their love. Now being married is nessary here, but its still done by unmarried females out of love for their other half. Its shown in movies all the time DDLJ for one and K3G. Ekta is known to show backward ways, but in this case I dont think she broke any rules.
