I am reading contradictory reports on this one. What are the actual figures? I'll be really happy for Shahid if it's doing well, considering the quality of the script and all, major credit would go to him for bringing in the audience. But am a little paranoid about celebrating too early. Anyone has any concrete information?

This is the video, btw. And there were a couple of other reports too.

Eros International Media Limited, the Indian media and entertainment company and Paperdoll Entertainment's PAATHSHAALA, which hit theatres this Friday, has grossed Rs. 10.5 crores worldwide in its opening weekend with Rs. 9 crores gross in India and Rs. 1.5 crores, approximately, overseas.

Starring Nana Patekar, Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia, PAATHSHAALA, was released with 199 prints on 450 screens, including digital screens, across India.

Commenting on the opening, Nandu Ahuja, Sr. VP, India Theatrical, Eros International Media Limited said, "Despite the IPL fever, PAATHSHAALA has opened to a good response across the country and, we believe, has struck a chord with the audiences. Collections have remained steady from Monday as well; we are hoping the film maintains this response in the coming days too".

PAATHSHAALA, with its socially relevant story, sheds light on the shortcomings and wrong doings in today's education system. Producer, Shaira Khan says, "We always wanted to produce a film with a noble thought and we feel that that audiences have accepted the film with open arms".

Director Milind Ukey added, "We designed PAATHSHAALA with very simple story telling but high emotional quotient due to the seriousness of the subject of the film. This way we have tried to ensure that it will be understood by all levels of audiences in India.

Speaking on audience reactions at multiplexes, Girish Wankhed, Dy General Manager, Corporate Communications, Cinemax India said, "PAATHSHAALA has opened to a positive response across our 94 screens in 27 locations. We feel that Shahid fans are thoroughly enjoying the film and the music has also been appreciated. This is a film for the entire family and we feel that word of mouth publicity is growing."

With moving performances by Nana Patekar, Shahid Kapoor and Ayesha Takia, PAATHSHAALA challenges the increasing immoralities and unethical practices in our education system.

Paathshaala and Phoonk Open To Dull Response

Saturday 17th April 2010 09.00 IST
Boxofficeindia.Com Trade Network

Paathshaala opened to dull respnse of 25-30% at multiplexes. The collections at single screens were even lower. The film has poor reports and will struggle at the box office.

Phoonk also opened to a dull response of 15-20%. The film has very low costs so may well recover its costs whth all revenue sources but the theatrical business will be dull.

Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai grossed a poor 3.50 crore nett in its first week. DISASTER

Prince grossed around 16 crore nett over its first week. The film opened well at single screens but dropped from Monday onwards. Business in some circuits is okay on the strength of opening at single screens but overall its a poor fare with second week opening poorly.

It has had very mixed reviews be interesting to see how it does...if like vivah can become a hit because of word of mouth

Paathshaala opened to a mixed response, with some multiplexes opening to a 40% response, while the opening at a few places was below the mark. But the second release, Phoonk 2, didn't muster an encouraging start.

Buzz up!
It would be interesting to see how they fare on Saturday and Sunday and if there's any escalation in business, although the reports are far from encouraging.
