:: Do You Remember ::
(Part IV)
"Mere Maa aur Bauji ke bech mai bahot problems hai. Dono ek dosre se baat bhi nahi karte. Jab ki mai jaanta hu keh woh ek doosre se kitna pyaar karte hai. Phir yeh sab kyun aur kis liye?" Prem signed.
"Mujhe toh pata bhi nahi keh problem kya hai. Bas baat baat par jagadne lagte hai." Prem added.
Heer knew how it felt when it came to parents. Even though her parents never fought, she could feel the pain he was going throw by seeing his parents in despair. She placed her hand on his shoulder. God knows why, but she felt it as her responsibility to do so.
Prem noticed the gentle touch of comfort on his shoulder which comforted his heart. He returned her a smile and gently placed his hand over her hand.
"Tum chinta mat karo. Sab theek hojaye gaa. Pati paatni mai jadge toh hote rehte hai." Heer said to lighten up his mood.
Prem gave her a smile full of gratitude and took his hand off of hers. Every time he touched her, he wanted more of her. This was so unlike him but he couldn't help himself. He looked around to distract his mind when his eyes spotted a lake.
::
After a couple of minutes, they reached a large lake that was surrounded by several admirers. Prem remembered this place. Whenever he came to Zurich with his parents, they both would always bring him here. The lake holds a special belief which he wanted to share with Heer.
"Heer, idhar aao." Prem called her attention and she followed him towards the lake.
Heer was amazed by the serene feeling that erupted from the lake. But she switched her gaze to look at him as he said something.
"Yeh lo." Prem placed a shiny, round coin in her hand and then looked at the lake. She looked at the lake as well.
Prem pointed towards a lady that held the coin in her hand, closed her eyes, made a wish, and then threw the coin into the lake. A small boy, who was already in the lake, swam towards the direction of the dropped coin. He searched for it for a few minutes underwater as the crowd held their breath.
And then they saw the boy spring out from the water with a smile on his face and the lady's coin in his hand. The visitors all clapped in joy.
Heer also smiled but she didn't know the significance of the joy. She looked at Prem with questioning eyes.
"Tum iss coin se ek wish mango. Phir usse lake me phek do. Woh baccha usse dhoonde gaa. Aggar usse coin milgaya toh tumhari wish poori hogi." Prem informed her about the concept of the belief.
Heer marveled over such a sweet belief. And she did just as she was told by Prem. She faced the lake, closed her caramel flavored eyes, clasped the coin close to her heart, and made a wish.
Prem watched her closely. Each time he looked at her, she seemed more and more beautiful to him. All he could ever wish for was to have her forever.
He quickly shifted his gaze back to the lake when he saw her open her eyes. She moved forward with him to throw the coin into the water. Before she threw it in, she took at look at his face. He smile and ushered her to throw it into the lake.
She kissed the coin and threw it into lake. Everyone watched eagerly as the little boy dived into the water in search for the coin. The crowd held their breath for a couple of minutes. The little boy appeared out of the water, but the sad sign on his face and his empty hands revealed to them that he didn't find it.
It broke her heart see that her wish wasn't granted. The surrounding people groaned as they were sad to see that Heer's wish didn't get fulfilled.
Prem watched the features on her face closely. When she had seen the boy pop out of the water, he had seen the eagerness that took over her face. But the boy's empty hands invited a frown to scatter over her face.
He knew that she had wished for something very important to her. It hurt him to see the dejected look on her face. She looked at him with sad eyes and that did it.
Prem quickly took his wallet out of his pocket and placed it on the ground besides her when she had her attention back on the lake.
"Heer, waha dekho!" Prem pointed to the other side. Heer instantly traced where his finger was pointing.
She found nothing but an empty space next to her. But the sudden splash of water made her jerk to Prem direction. She saw the empty space next to her and spotted the wallet on the floor.
Realization dawn upon her as she understood that he was in the water. The entire crowd held in a sharp breath and waited for what was yet to come.
Heer was simply gaping. Her heart was thumping hard against her chest. And as each second passed by, the fear was urging in on her entire being. He did not just do what she thinks he did?
An old lady came and stood besides her.
"Does he know how to swim?" She asked fearfully. Heer felt the tears prick behind her eyes.
"I don't know." Heer whispered back and started blankly at the lake which was extremely still.
The old lady let out a groan.
"I hope he didn't drown dear." The lady informed her. And Heer jerked her attention to the lady.
"The lake is extremely deep and shallow. The little boy is well trained to do the work. I just hope that the young boy is okay." The lady said and glanced at the lake.
Tears brimmed in her eyes and she prayed to the one above to protect him. All the visitors grew eager as minutes passed by. They were all eagerly praying for Prem's well being.
Heer was at the verge of collapsing when she saw a hand spring out of the water, holding onto the coin from which she made a wish. And then he popped out of the water, his dazzling smile playing on his lips.
The crowd let out a sign of relief and cheered his accomplishment. Heer felt the life inside herself come back. She quickly wiped her tears away knowing that the worse of her thoughts had been proven wrong.
Heer kneeled down at the tip of the platform and Prem swam closer to her. Heer watched his face closely. His silky wet hair was combed back by his hands and a smile lit up his face.
Heer drank in his sight as for a second, she thought that she lost him. Prem got a hold of her hand and placed the coin on her palm.
Heer stared at him in disbelief. He did all this for her?
"Tumhari wish aab poori hogayi!" Prem declared.
But seeing that she wasn't responding to him, he let out his hand.
"Arre, aab mujhe bahar tok nikalo!" Prem said. Heer grabbed his hand and helped him get out of the lake.
As he stood on the platform, the crowd cheered and gave him bright smiles.
A lady comment caught their attention.
"Wow dear, this boy really loves you." The lady said.
Heer looked at Prem who simply winked at her. How much she wished that the lady was saying the truth.
And before anyone could say anything or do anything, Heer threw her arms around his neck and hugged him tight.
His mind didn't register anything. The only thing that he felt was her soft body clinging to his muscular structure. He stood there shocked for a couple of seconds. But the second he felt warm tears near his neck, he slipped his arms around her slender waist and held her close.
"You're such an idiot! Pata hain mai kitna dar gayi thi!" Heer said as she clutched onto his shirt tighter.
A huge smile spread across his lips as he heard her say that. He concern for him just touched her heart.
"Mai tumhe udaas nahi dekh paaya." Prem whispered in a husky tone, close to her ear.
His voice let a cold shiver run down her spine and she slowly pulled out from the hug. Her eyes indulged all her attention into his eyes. Even though she moved back, he still held onto her by her waist.
She looked deeply in those rusty brown eyes and a gushy feeling erupted inside her heart as if someone had gently squeezed it.
Her face was just millimeters away from his. She saw the shiny droplets of water rush down his cheek and stop at his jaw line. Her eyes flinched back to his eyes and a passionate gaze caught her off guard.
::
He knew that he shouldn't be doing this. But he just couldn't control himself. He watched her closely. From what he examined from her dusty eyes was she was trapped in his love cage.
This was the least of all the things that he would ever want to happen. He didn't want anyone to fall in love with him. He didn't find himself capable of being loved by a decent girl like her. Heer deserved someone much better. But here he was, at the verge of losing his control.
His mind warned him from doing what he was about to do. But his heart urged him on with full force. He came as close as possible to her lips. He watched as her eyes drifted to a closure, a sign of her surrender to him.
But the look on her face made him stop. He watched closely. The innocence and the purity were undeniably enticing. But he also knew that if he kissed her…..yes kissed her…then he would be breaking her trust in some way. Even though she gave in, it was his responsibility to control himself.
He relaxed his hold around her waist and brought his hands back to himself as he stepped back.
::
She opened her eyes when she didn't feel him close enough to herself. And then it hit her, as if a ball was aimed right at her face. What the he** was she about to do? Kiss a guy she barely knew? Let him feel her?
However, it only took her one good look to judge the guy standing in front of her. Prem kept his promise. He didn't break her trust. And that's when she realized that Heer Mann was in love. She was in love with him. She……loved…..the sweetest flirt she had ever seen.
::
They both roamed around the town the entire day. First, Heer got Prem to stop by a shop so that he could change into decent, dry clothes before catching a cold. After changing in a dry pair of jeans and an orange sweatshirt, they continued their exploration of the beautiful city. The visited beautiful, serene parks, enjoyed some ice cream from a famous parlor, witnessed the ravishing water fountains as dawn broke in, and let out silent prayers at an antique cathedral.
Both of tem wished the same thing, the other's happiness. And while becoming a tad bit selfish, they hoped that they were never separated.
::
After returning to the hotel they had to stay at, sleep took over them. But their dreams only consisted of each other.
::
As everything went back to normal, the flight was packed up with the passengers and the journey was continued. However, this time around, the journey wasn't boring at all. Prem and Heer shared anything and everything about themselves to each other. And when the separation came on hold, all they could do before going their own ways was give each other the tightest and most genuine huge that they had ever given to anyone.
This was it. Prem didn't want to pull back from the hug that now meant so much to him, but he reluctantly had to. He looked at her face while reflected the gratitude she felt for everything he did.
As she pulled back from the hug, she noticed a certain spark of sadness in his eyes. The sadness somehow reflected what she felt in her heart. But she none the less needed to thank him.
"Thanks for everything. Ek akeli ladki ki madat ki." Heer smiled at him.
"Dosti mai yeh sab nahi hota. Aur tumhari wajah se mujhe pata chala ke aaj bhi duniya mai aise ladkiyaa hai joh respect deserve karti hai." Prem answered with a smile.
She couldn't help but smile at him.
"Bahot accha laga tumse milke. Pataa nahi phir kab milenge?" Heer said in a sad tone.
Prem felt a line from the past return t him.
"Meri dadi hamesha kehti thi. Aggar kismet me milna likha ho, toh phir mulakat zaroor hoti hai. Woh bhi achanak se. Shayad hum bhi kabhi achanak se mil jaye. Yaad to rakhogi naa?" Prem smirked at him.
"Of course rakhungi. Tumhare jaisa flirt bhala koi bhol sakta hai kya?" Heer laughed along with Prem.
And then they parted their way. But destiny had something planned for them. The separation of two years was meant to later gift them with a lifetime full of shirr bliss…….together!
