To my ears:
KK is a little more nasal than Shaan
KK is has less of a bass-voice than Shaan
KK's highs are unmistakeable - executed with so much ease.
Love KK. 😳

Agree with all your points, Shaan is my personal fave, but KK is definitely far better in the high notes. Actually I love both their voice textures as there is an unmistakable depth and emotion which they both bring to every song. I wish we get to hear both of them for many years to come.

I agree with above poster than Shaan does have more bass on his voice . KK high notes are way better than Shaan. Just listen to his performance in TADAP TADAP. Both of them have melodious voice, suits romantic songs. However KK has huge advantage over Shaan in rock songs. I consider Sonu, Shaan and KK top three playback singers in bollywood right now. However KK is my personal favorite

i know KK was just mind-blowing in that particular song. I was in Class VIII when taht song released, and I just remmeber being swept away into adolescent awe at the range and amotion KK brought into that song.
Shaan according to me is better in romantic songs as there is a sweetness he has in his voice,I absolutely adore him😳 But definitely KK is more versatile and no-one can sing soft rock like KK. Love both of them👏⭐️

KK has a very lovely, urban voice - his voice sounds like the voice of any young Indian. His voice suits all the actors because of this. I love KK's singing because of his high notes and his amazing emotion. Of course, his forte is soft rock these days but he can sing a wide range of songs... Like slumdog said, just look at 'Tadap Tadap' - this is a very earthy Indian song but KK, who has no formal training, sang it so well. In fact, this KK reminds me a lot of the other versatile, self-trained KK (Kishore Kumar) of yesteryears...

Both of them are awesome singers and we're lucky to have such great voices to hear!

Another amazing post. I really enjoy reading all your posts. Yes, here you ahve brought out two VERY GOOD points --
1. Shaan's voice quality - He has this most silky, soothing voice which is his hallmark. I really adore Shaan and he is simply too good. I ahve to admit he is good-looking, has an amazing personality and is a perfect gentleman- qualities which endear him to me a lot just as his voice does. Perhaps that explains his fan following. But apart from all these factors hwich we cannot dsioc**t in today's age n time, Shaan's voice has the capacity to move Young India. that is no rare quality, a voice which i think 16-30 age group today simply idolozes.
2. KK as the young, urban, rock voice prototype- Whereas Sonu Nigam is revered more by the previous generation(above 30 year olds) as he was at his peak in their college days n so on, KK has a huge fan following among the younger crowd. He has the capacity to sing with so much ease and power despite not being formally trained. I enjoy heairng all his songs and there is so much improvisation he brings to each song. I really like his ability to stay low-key and still loved by so many music lovers. He has true talent,a nd he is not a brand like say Shaan but he actually has more to show despite staying low-profile and his talent speaks volumes.

I disagree. Sonu may be good, and he fares well in many songs/languages but to make such a claim would be inaccurate. Maybe is he amongst a few of the most "popular" singers due to some of his gems (in and out of Bollywood), but even without looking too far I think Shankar Mahadevan and Hariharan are way more talented.
No one is claiming Shaan or KK are the best in India either. Both have genres that they shine in. I personally feel Sonu's full potential is not tapped in Bollywood - he is given mediocre songs 90% of the time. It is refreshing to hear some of his "regional" songs - perhaps because they are more classically based. I always liked him in the original SRGM show - before that show went down the gutter.

You r entitled to have your own opinion, I respect it. My point was that Sonu is not in the league of shaan & kk. I said sonu is the most talented singer in India, because I feel he is Perfect in everything, Shankar is a classical maestro but he doesnt have a soft & soothing voice like Sonu, Sonu too is classically trained, sonu has a beautiful voice. I feel Sonu is complete "Allrounder" so I feel he is the best overall. I agree that his full potential is not being tapped in bollywood these days.

Hi there. I am not trying to be argumentative and I also understand that you appreciate Sonu's talents - and I do respect that. I agree that SM does not usually do romantic numbers but he is still versatile - he does classical, peppy, folk and high-energy type songs. Maybe Hariharan is a closer comparison then. He is good at classical and has a velvety super romantic voice that touches my heart like no-one else (again, just my opinion), and he does pop-ish. Does this make Hariharan an all-rounder. How do you rate Sonu against Hariharan then?
My point was...calling someone #1 in India is a little short-sighted. Nothing against Sonu.
To xobile: this is really not about favorites - for me. I just have an objection to people being called #1 in India or most beautiful in the world etc. It's just silly to me. Again this is just me. So I couldn't help myself - I had to raise an objection.

Completely agree - my mind boggles to think who is the best. Sometimes A seems the best, sometimes B and sometimes C... And that's just in Bollywood! What about all the other genres of music? Calling someone number 1 is not easy at all, for me anyway!

And that's exactly what my intruments question was about. You can have a favourite instrument - that does not make it the number 1 instrument! It' just your favourite because it touches your heart and moves you - just because I like the violin doesn't mean that guitars are second-grade...
