Shankar's Breathless Song A Fake?

My question is: Was the song real or fake? Singing continuously without drawing breath for 3-4 minutes is physically, medically and biologically impossible for any human being. I'm sure the song was prerecorded ( or maybe the original song itself was played). In fact, my guess is that ALL the songs in the live finale were prerecorded and singers just had to lip sync. This makes sense because Gajji can't take the risk of a major catastrophy during any song which is watched live by the national audience.

During regular episodes it's possible to have live singing cos there's enough time to edit and correct major problems before the telecast.

What do you think?

Totally agree with you. In fact in one of the songs, don't remember which, I could hear the singing while the mike was away from the face.

Infact all reality show Grand finale performances are pre recorded. I am not saying all performances are pre recorded, but many are!
The same things happened in indian idol, saregama & CU also. I remember few instances wherein u can clearly makeout. In indian idol 3 finale episode when all contestants were coming one after another with a headphone instead of mike and dancing, i noticed puja chatterjee & emon both doing lip sync & puja missed out many times as she got distracted. The same in chote ustaad finale when aishwarya & anwesha were dancing & singing with the help of headphone, they were doing lip sync, nor how can someone dance & sing continiously on 4-5 songs!
Then even in saregama 2009 finalist Yashita was dancing as well as singing , then when she stoped & the host questioned her she couldnt speak properly, she was out of breath, then how did she performed 4-5 songs! The songs were perfect, no problem of breathlessness while performing!
Then in MKMM grandfinale I m not sure of other performances . But what mohit was performing was prerecorded, the song was exact the way it was in the movie, no variation atall. If you check the video u can easilly makeout he was doing lip sync!

I think they played the prerecorded song as a backing track. So the song was playing in the background and Shankarji sang along. And the song is just called 'breathless', in fact there are various places in the song where a trained singer can take a quick breath!

They use backing tracks in lots of live shows for various reasons. Even concerts use backing tracks.

On a similar note, I felt like I could distinctly hear Uditji's version behind Harshit's 'Khaike Paan Banaraswala' at times...

And another thing. At one point in the episode, the anchor Ayushman is handling the trophy greedily. There's a fade and then Ayushman appears in his usual place (far away from the trophy) like a magician. Which means it's not truly a live telecast. I'm sure the show must've started around 6 p.m in Mumbai (anyone from Mumbai who attended can clarify). The telecast started at 9 pm. So there's scope for some editing even in the 'live' telecast.

pre-recording was fine ... unless it called for marks .... any other finale were just great performances ... no marks for that .... but this time, pre-recorded .. pre-determinted marks ,,,, that makes the diff

You're right, navaneeta. If there's no marks, prerecording is fine. But this was a competition. It was unethical, to say the least, to mislead the public. They shd have announced that it was prerecorded.

i was supporting shaan........but i dont think the breathless was pre recorded..besides it wasnt fake at all........i dont like shankar at all specially as a person ( hated him for coming over and over again just to seal the victory over kid singers) but just trying to make breathless look fake is a poor attempt of showing respect to the music art itself....even shaan was standing beside him after breathless.........showing respect where its due.....proud to be his fan....

one more thing......i found some1 telling that every grand finale is pre recorded...........well....indian idol one and two werent......i even remember abhijeet sawant doing a major crack in his rang de basanti performance ( wiping off all the glory of the performance itself while it had been a tremendous one till the crack) in ii2...trust me it wudnt be there if it was prerecorded.......

I wanted shaans strikers to win as they had been a better team than the shankar's rockstars.......but not every time the true deserving one wins..........

According to me Breathless was not at all fake.. Shankar ji was singing live it was very much obvious and he has so much command on sur with fast-pace that he has the capability to take quick breaths in between this song.. it was a remarkable performance, i was simply awed by it.. Loved it!! 😊

Well I didn't watch that performance. But in the MMKM on IF, I had a debate with SSK over the same issue. My personal opinion is this song can no way be performed live in the same manner as it was recorded originally without some noticeable breaths.
I heard Shankar ji uses a technique called circular breathing and I am sure he uses it that during live performance also. But he will never sing the song with the same pace as the original. I saw one of his live performance where he sang the whole song in 2 mins whereas originally the song was recorded in around 3 mins. That way chances of noticing the breath reduces.

Let me just remind once again that this song was originally recorded in two phases. Shankar ji has himself admitted that. The point is he didn't use that technique for constant 3 mins but he did that in two phases.
