Sakharpuda is engagement . It is done prior to the wedding by Maharshtrians . It is done at the Bride's place , not at the GROOM's place . Now the interesting question is why a rich man like Girish decided to hold a sakharpuda at the groom's place which is not even a flat , just a two roomed chawl home and break the basic etiquette of doing it at his own palatial flat . That wud have been eminently a smart move as no one in the chawl wud have gossiped as no one wud have even known . They cud easily have left Archu at home and gone to Girish's place . Neither does it look good to host a function in that home in which a son died recently , nor does it look good to do it ethically as the undivorced wife is very much living there . However I have some explanations for that .
1] Girish loves the chawl home : Yes , my dears ! Heres news for you ..........Girish has fallen in love at this age . No , not with a materialistic bitchy woman who shud ideally grab his money and send Shravani back to the US , nor with a sexy half clad bimbo half his age bcoz he is going thru a mid life crisis .........but with the chawl home of the DEshmukhs . All those pungent , strong smells of dirty laundry water around the common tap , the cooking smells emanating through every room in the chawl, Savita's tea that he drinks everytime he comes there , the garbage heaps in the corner .........all those collective smells have wafted up his nose and reached right upto his brain and addled it . He knew the etiquette but he broke it coz he couldn't stay away from the chawl .
2] Girish loves to talk loudly , boldly and carelessly just like the chawl people : Thats the reason he was talking so loudly with his friends about the sakharpuda while climbing the creaky old steps of the chawl ........a function that he intended to best keep secret for the sake of the safety of his daughter and son in law who can easily land in jail for bigamous acts ! The noisy , garrulous behaviour of the chawl people has touched his heart and he wants to BE JUST LIKE THEM ! The only explanation for this one is that Girish was , after leaving the chawl home after every visit to Shravni , was not going straight home but hobnobbing with the chawl men and having a secret drink or two with them before leaving . Their natural garrulity has rubbed off on him and he loves it !
3] Girish has NOT taken a bath for many , many days now : Yes dearies . I know you guys wont believe me , for he looks exactly as white and clean as the interior of a fluffy medu vada , but the truth is , with Shravani away , no wife ..........in short , no woman to nag him to take a bath daily , Girish has been skipping baths like a naughty little boy . It all started with first skipping it on alternate days , then , for a couple of days , then for four days at a stretch , then for weeks . All that spruced cleanliness u guys see is simply make up , bas . Loads of foundation that the rich guy can afford , left on Shravni's dressing table at home , bas . This not taking bath business has settled so much dirt in his curly jet black hair [ which he dyes btw] that his initial rational thinking has been clouded by the fungus in his hair .....and it has become erratic and irrational of late . Hence his haste and insistence on the sakharpuda at the chawl home , not wanting to wait for even two months as if Manav was going to grow wings and fly away like an angel to the garage section in Heaven where angel garage mechanics r sorely wanted .
So u see guys , ALL EXPLANATIONS ARE THERE . THINK GUYS THINK .........DONT JUST BE HUFFY AND BLAME !
Shravani has graduated from ivory white to straight fertile green saris .
And Archana , who said she hasnt become bold or has enough self respect ? She actually guards the door while her husband [ who fell on his head when he was a baby] is getting engaged inside and smartly puts off the chawl women by giving them real sharp answers .
