'Issues between India and Pakistan should be resolved by conciliation'
LAHORE: Pakistan and India should resolve core issues by conciliation and war would only bring destruction to the region, All Parties Hurriyat Conference Leader Prof Abdul Ghani Bhatt told Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) members on Friday.
Bhatt said the Kashmir dispute should be resolved by bilateral negotiations and according to resolutions passed by the United Nations and wishes of the Kashmiri people. "The only way out is through negotiation because people of both countries are against war," he added.
He said that Kashmiri freedom fighters were being called terrorists because of the recent political and strategic changes in the region, which was wrong. "Kashmiris are not fighting for power but only for their right of self-determination which has been recognised by the UN, but India is violating that right," he said. Bhatt said it has proven that elections were not the solution to the issue because there had been 12 elections in the region and nothing had changed. staff report
