Actually, Padma's specific complaint was that Deepu has to support w/ his salary both Jyoti & Sushma. But there are two problems here w/ her reasoning:Originally posted by: queenyuks
No matter how many times Padma is taught a lesson, it's like her default setting is set at 'Hate Jyoti'
If the house has no more money left, that's Jyoti's fault. What about Sushma living in that house since well before that and sucking on their resources, and not contributing because she was stupid enough to not pass grade 12?
Oh, gratitude is the last thing known to Padma, although she never tires of her class envy tirades when she is not bellyaching about Jyoti.Originally posted by: queenyuks
Jyoti is sitting home useless, unable to get a job to help out the family's financial situation. What about all the earning Jyoti did AFTER she was married. Her whole salary used to come to the Sharma's. I hate to say that, but without her salary, their (the Sharma family's) real aukad comes out. Even with Deepu's promotion, they can hardly make ends meet. But no, it's still Jyoti's fault, because she doesn't have a job right now.
Actually, in the story, had Jyoti not been kicked out, Deepu's rishta might have been accepted by the Mehtas, but maybe not by him. The Mehtas didn't seem to react negatively to Sushma - after all Baby Mausi would have given them that detail, but they probably glossed over it since both Jyoti and Sudha were Vashisth bahusOriginally posted by: queenyuks
Deepu is unable to find a rishta, because of Jyoti living at home. What about Sushma, who's husband is in jail? If I were looking for a guy and had to look at his family, my view would be that someone like Jyoti has an almost 80% chance of reconciling with her husband and going back to her sasural, but Sushma's husband, for whatever reason, is in jail. I would want to just stay away because of that. And Im sure that's why most people steered clear of the Sharma's.
I think Poonam would be a positive character, and the reason for doing that would be to highlight Jyoti as a good judge of character, even though Jyoti was lucky that the Trivedis are 'modern' and don't have those hang-ups about the family, but just want their daughter to be okay w/ the guy. Poonam too would not dwell on Jyoti's or Sushma's past. I think the problem Padma would have w/ her, as she has w/ both Deepu & now Sushma is that like them, Poonam too will like and love Jyoti, and not be Padma's ally in her blind hatred of Jyoti. And that could potentially sour Padma's relation w/ her new bahu. After all, Jyoti is a lot more similar to Poonam than Padma is.Originally posted by: queenyuks
Jyoti found a girl for Deepu by being honest with them, did she get a thanks from Padma? No,but if something fishy comes up with Poonam (god forbid), then it will be Jyoti's fauly for picking the wrong girl.
Absolutely, and one thing that Padma forgets - had Jyoti gone w/ her initial instincts and never lifted a finger for Sushma, she'd still be in that house today: had Brij gone and told them about Jyoti, she'd could have told them that since not only she but her father had disowned Sushma, she didn't betray them by not telling them about her. On top of that, had Jyoti dropped out of Sishu Mangal and stopped sending any salary home, she could have earned CM's support for dissociating w/ her lower class family, and would even have been in a position to persuade CM to accept Sudha as Uday's wife w/o any issues.Originally posted by: queenyuks
Jyoti got kicked out because she was the one who had her relationship with Brij before marriage, and then set her sights on someone richer. What about Sushma who eloped with the guy? Jyoti is a smart cookie, she would have eventually seen Brij's true face, dumped him, and moved on. And Pankaj was already interested in her, it was inevitable. In fact, if Sushma hadn't run away with Brij, and all this had happened, then the Vashishts would already have known about Sushma, and Jyoti wouldn't be hiding anything. It was Sushma who single-handedly ruined Jyoti's life (married or otherwise).
Not only that, she is too obsessed w/ what other people think, regardless of whether or not it's true. When Sudha was accused of being a vamp due to Devika's disco brawl, Padma was more worried about the neighbor's gossip than Sudha's condition, so much so that Pankaj had to put Sudha up in his place. Now, she is upset about Jyoti being home b'cos of what everybody thinks about them, even though she knows what Jyoti really did and why.Originally posted by: queenyuks
But Padma will never see these differences. Sushma, in her eyes, is perfect and can do no wrong. And if anything ever goes wrong (which is usually her doing, like starting off a marriage proposal with a huge lie) she is only thinking of others, and it's ultimately Jyoti's fault.
What 🤬 me off about Jyoti is her continued respect to Padma. When Padma told her that she was responsible for Jyoti leaving the house and marrying Pankaj, Jyoti should have just agreed. After all, had Dayal uncle presented the Sharmas formally w/ a rishta, instead of just Jyoti, and the Sharmas had gotten to meet CM before the marriage, they could have vetoed this marriage from happening, since CM's hollow character would have shown.Originally posted by: queenyuks
I know that there's no point it mentioning all this, but it frustrates me to no end. Her attitude will never change. Tomorrow Jyoti could fix everyone's life single handedly, but the day after, everything will again be her fault.
Why have enemies when you can have a masi/step-mother like Padma?Yuks
