I'll tell about one real life incident...
I was travelling from Tirupati to Hyderabad by train (sleeper class) a few years back. At around midnight, a 1 yr old kid was sitting and crying a few seats away from mine. No one was bothered for about 1/2 hour. When it continued for a long time, a few of us decided to pick up the child, but we were scared about getting into trouble(for kidnapping and stuff like that). The kid himself was not ready to come to any of us.
We called the TTE and told him...he asked everyone in our compartment, but found that the kid did not belong to anyone. We were really worried...whether the kid's mother has jumped off the train, committed suicide or something...it became a serious issue and at 2 in the morning all lights in our compartment were on and everyone was discussing about the child. We were planning to call the railway police in the next station.
We were in S7...then the TTE went to the other compartments, just to check and found that in S3, there was some tension about a lady crying that her baby has been lost!!! The TTE told her about the child in S7, she came running to our compartment and found that the baby was hers!!!
The child had actually travelled crawling, through the vestibule😲 and reached 4 compartments away from his mother's...and no one had noticed!!!
Such things do happen!!!
