Did you know, it was Aishwarya Rai who had bagged in the role of female lead in Mani Ratnam's Bombay a film made on the 1993 bomb blasts.
According to the buzz, Mani Ratnam had asked cinematographer-film-maker Rajeev Menon for the dates of Ash for his movie. But, since she was busy with the Miss India pageant, she couldn't. And this is where Manisha came in the picture and took away the role.

Shankar, who is now busy shooting The Robot with Ash, was suppose to sign her for his Tamil flick India and had also decided the name of her character as Aishwarya but the clashes of dates stroke and the role went for a second time to Manisha Koirala. And we saw Manisha starring opposite Kamal Hassan, playing the role of this character named Aishwarya.

Need more, here it is. Manisha was seen playing a role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Khamoshi but that role too was meant for none other than, Aishwarya Rai. While Aishwarya slipped the role off, Manisha was seen bagging a number of awards for her performance in this deaf-mute saga.

i don't know about anything else, but i know for fact that SLB wanted Madhuri for both khamoshi and HDDCS. She refused both the movies, and then it went to manisha and aish respectively. I read this in many of SLB's interviews,,he said he wanted to work with madhuri from his first film but finally it happened in Devdas
btw when i saw the title i thought u were going to talk about Aish's affair with manisha's bf...it was a big story back then , how aish stole manisha's bf. (this was before she got involved with salman) so i guess they have one more connection😉
oh as for Bombay, it is one of my ALL time fav movie..and it was perfect the way it was made, i think manisha may be a druggie and drunkie but she was one of the best actress of industry. she was perfect for the role.
