PART-14
"I accept my Lord…" jai said looking straight into Ratan Suryavanshi's eyes…Uday Singh looked baffled…
"How dare you shameless…?" Ratan Sign roared…bani flinched as she heard the rounds of arguments going on…she silently cried while meera held her firmly… …
Samyukta curiously looked on standing behind Queen Roopmati…his face was vaguely familiar, the eyes, the same kind eyes reminded her of someone… suddenly she turned to glance at Uday and was shocked…Samyukta peered through jai…searching… …
"I am the thief you were trying to catch…" jai confessed boldly…
"Soldiers…arrest this traitor and throw him in the prison…"
The people gathered in the main hall protested requesting their king to withdraw his order… …
"Before you do that Maharaja, I want to tell you the truth of your governing body…" jai said…
"What truth…??? Of all a thief would tell me about it…" said rattan sarcastically…
"Yes, Maharaja…can I get some ice…" jai demanded…
"Shut up…soldiers take him away…" ratan ordered…
"Wait…let us hear him out and why he resorted to stealing, I am surprised when people are singing his praises…" uday said, the young man in front of him impressed him a lot, it took great guts to replace a prince and enter the palace, without anybody even getting a hint of it… …
"But…" ratan said…
"Please Maharaja…." Uday beseeched
"Go ahead…" ratan said and shortly an huge ice cube was brought… …
Jai put it on the palm of the minister in the farthest end and asked them to pass the ice cube to the next till it reaches the king… everybody agreed readily…soon the ice cube reached the king…who looked confused…
"What do you want to say…?" Ratan said…
"Maharaja…how much of ice is left in your hand…." Jai asked…Ratan looked down to see most of the ice melted and only a small lump of it remaining… …
"This is what happens with the money you give to the common man…" jai said confidently…Uday smiled, this young man was genius… realization dawned upon Ratan who looked guilty, he threw a sharp glance towards his ministers who were seated, they bowed their heads…
"Now I accept any punishment, even that means death sentence…" jai said… the people shouted from behind… …
Samyukta's eyes grew wide in astonishment as she saw the sun pendant peeping out of jai's dress… Shloka's son was alive, Oh!! God!! Your are great she cried out in excitement… …
"That doesn't decrease your unlawful act of stealing…you will have to…" before ratan could finish…samyukta spoke up…
"Wait a second…" samyukta said…everyone looked surprised…
"I need to tell a truth…" uday stared at samyukta…Truth…What truth?? He thought about the astrologer's prediction… …
"He is no normal man Maharaja…he is a king by birth… …" samyukta declared… everyone stood astounded, jai's face paled…he was a king…
"What nonsense are you speaking???" Uday questioned…
"I not speaking nonsense Maharaja…remember what you did sixteen years ago with a young girl…who died giving birth to your first born child…" samyukta said, uday sat as if thunderstruck…
"How can you say that??" questioned ratan…
Samyukta walked towards jai in slow steps… she reached jai and warmly smiled at him…
"You survived son…I am sure you mother saved you…she would be so happy…" samyukta touched his face…
She took hold of the thread holding the pendant and pulled it open…
"Look Maharaja…isn't it your pendant…" Samyukta showed it to Uday who simply nodded…a part of him wanted to jump and hug his son…but another part of him felt ashamed at what would his son think of him… …
"He is the Prince of Udaipur…" samyukta said…the people cheered while bani was yet to recover from the truth which she just heard… …

"I am sorry son…" uday said apologetically…now in the closed confines of the room uday let his tears flow openly…jai stood still, this was all bizarre…and unreal…it seemed like a dream…
"I was young and reckless…but I know what to do now…" uday said, he placed his hand on jai's shoulder…
"You will be the King of Udaipur…" he said…

Ratan had no choice but to agree to get jai and bani married since now even Uday accepted jai as his son and the king of Udaipur…after marriage jai would be crowned as the future king…a few questions raised by the religious leaders but Uday's decision didn't deter…on bani's request meera's mother happily got meera and kunal married.
For jai it was all too sudden, and unbelievable, the truth of his birth revealing, getting married to bani, everything happened in a spin of time…soon he was on his way to his kingdom…his kingdom…he met bani's eyes as she was about to sit in the palanquin as his Queen…he smiled as he remembered how she confessed that she was jealous that he was a king, now he could marry as many times as possible…he chuckled recollecting last night, their wild night after marriage… …
"You are a king now…"
"So…"
"In future you will…"
"What…"
"I can understand…"
"Tell me bani…"
"You might have to marry other princesses, promise me…that you will never stop loving me…"
"Today if you had asked for my my life I would have given it without blinking an eyelid…"
"Don't say that ever again…"
"I promise you…only you will rule my kingdom as well as my heart…I will never marry again in any circumstances… I promise…"
"But…"
"Sshhh… this night is beautiful…let us live it…" all the doubts flew from her head…she came closer to him…
"Love me…" she whispered in his ear, her soft cheek held against his rough one…she felt his hands move inside her red and gold skirt, stroking…she dropped fervent kisses all over his face…the night was never-ending… …
He came out of revive as kunal trotted behind him, he would be his chief minister…
"Dhasa is fine, is she comfortable…?" jai asked kunal as he mounted his horse, he had persuaded nandi to come along with him, after all she had brought him up…
"Yes…" kunal said…
"Ready to go King…" kunal winked at him…jai laughed… …

"I shall serve you…my citizens…until death befalls…" jai declared…throwing gold coins towards the frenzy mob of people of Udaipur…
"We salute our king" everybody broke into an impromptu joyous clamor, samyukta looked on with misty eyes…she shifted her blurry eyes heavenwards; her soul will finally rest in peace… …
Jai took bani's hand and held it softly; they faced each other smiling… …
"All's Well that's Ends Well… …"

P.S.: I feel the last part could have been better but I just wrote it a bit absentmindedly, I was a bit stressed about a thing… …Sorry!!!!
Epilogue…
Shibani returned to the place again, the party was in full swing but she was more curious to have a look at her great-great-grandparents… …standing before the same portrait of her great-great-grandparents… …
The whole night…she had been awake, reading the book…it was exhilarating, it was a typical candy floss, a princess falling in love with a charming hero and how they came together…with secrets unfolding…it was intriguing…if the translation was so good, she wondered how the original would be…
A time when Bani Devi had the whole world swooning at… her feet and even now when she still had the world swooning at… her memory…The Most Beautiful Woman in the World…she was the ultimate Maharani-the lady who personified 'Royalty'. It was her special burden. Maybe it was also her secret joke. The people of Udaipur adored her… …and Jaivardhan was the perfect match for the rare beauty with brains…Most people were awestruck and even dumbstruck in his presence. But if he noticed their discomfort, he instantly reached out to them and made them at ease without patronizing anybody.
Bani Devi showed her true class and grace dealing with 'her people'–simple villagers who flocked around their Maharani. Her smoky, throaty voice added to the allure and mystique still further. The mystery which her better half…her love…her husband…was successful in knowing… …She was a woman who lived…a woman who had experienced life in all its complexities. Above all it was the simplicity of a young girl, she had recalled with rare poignancy and candor that at the end of the day, even the Maharani of a Kingdom places her head on a pillow…and silently weeps at times… or laughs childishly… …
She was something…her innocence coupled with boldness and naughty playfulness… …How unabashedly she confessed that she was in love with the virtual image of the hero she had only heard and not saw…she would have loved to sit on the horse-back galloping around Alwar for her entire life, snuggling close to her lover…but he had turned out to be a worthy prince which certainly made her insecure and jealous thinking of the numerous other queens he would have in future…but he loved her too much to think of anyone else and never had even bowed to such personal or political endeavors, something which she proudly stated was extremely difficult for a man who had the social license and much more difficult for a king for whom his people came first and then everything else, but according to her this rare quality of loyalty was the most beautiful part of his endearing personality and his absentmindedness about the very same made him even more charming and alluring… …
And lastly her piece of advice to never wear green emeralds with a green sari, because they looked so much better with pink… she had heeded to her advice, in the party, wearing green emerald earrings with a pink flowing gown…she was an object of envy…Shibani smiled to herself… trying to gauge the portrait, what other secrets it held…
"They make a perfect couple…don't they…" a deep voice came from behind; she could tell the owner of the attractive voice was just inches away from her…
"Indeed they…do…" she turned around to drown in the most gorgeous pair of eyes she had ever seen… he was the same man from the party, she had been introduced to just a few hours ago, Jai Samrat Singh, the Kunwar of Cooch Bihar, a Hotelier by profession and a leading polo player by passion… he smiled at her… seeing the recognition on her face… …
"Hi…Kunwar…" she mumbled, nervously, she felt butterflies in her stomach… which was so unlike her confident self…
"You can call me jai…" he said, his sensuous lips curving into a breath-taking smile…which caused her to fluster…
"Dance…" he said…shibani looked puzzled…
"Music..." she asked questioningly… …the party was held in the gardens, and hardly any sound was able to reach the gallery…it was almost pin-drop silent…
"Listen to the music of your heart…gorgeous lady…" he said flirtingly as he pulled her hand, causing her to sway about… …
The moonlit night passed away with the two souls discovering each other…all over again… …
