Comments on Prophet a writing error: SRK

Mumbai: A day after a police complaint was filed against him for "hurting religious sentiments" in Islam, actor Shah Rukh Khan said on Friday that his comments to a magazine were misinterpreted due to a "writing error".

The First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by the Mumbai Aman Committee (MAC) at the Bandra police station on Thursday after they read in Time'N Style-Luxury that Shah Rukh had listed Prophet Mohammad as one of the most unimpressive personalities in history alongside Adolf Hitler and Winston Churchill.

But Shah Rukh said it was a "writing error" and that he had named the Prophet among the most impressive personalities in history.

"Obviously I think that there is no more important figure in history than Prophet Mohammad in the most positive way possible. Also, being a Muslim and standing up for the tenets of Islam is my most important agenda. If they (MAC) have seen my interviews on TV about Islam and Prophet Mohammad, they would know it's a writing error and not a thought or view that I believe in," Shah Rukh told IANS in an SMS message.

"For all practical purposes, Prophet Mohammad is the most important positive figure in Islam," he said.

A corrigendum from the magazine was also published across Mumbai newspapers on Thursday wherein the magazine accepted the error.

The corrigendum stated: "This is with reference to the interview with Shah Rukh Khan that featured in Time'N Style-Luxury Vol-1 issue: The answer to question 'According to you (Shah Rukh) who is the most impressive figure in history?' should have appeared as: 'There are lots of them. Some negative ones like Hitler. Then Napoleon, Winston Churchill were impressive.

" 'If I can call it history then most impressive, positive figure Prophet Mohammad and from recent times there are the nice ones like Nelson Mandela, Gandhiji and Mother Teresa.' This is a clarification and the error is deeply regretted."

An official from the Bandra police station, however, confirmed that the FIR had not been withdrawn even after the corrigendum was published.

Oh Good..Srk should first get a copy of his interview before it gets published.

Well, if SRK says that it was a writing error, then I believe him. I highly doubt he would make such a comment. I'm sure he knows the implications of saying such a thing. But this is really unfortunate on the part of the journalist. This could have really damaged his image.

Publication has also confirmed it. I can't believe people can't recognize proper english...it was so damn obvious from that statement that there was a major gramatical error.

Publication clarifies over SRK's remark on Prophet
Mumbai | Thursday, Jun 18 2009 IST

The ''Time 'n Style Luxury'' magazine, a publication of Times Group, has clarified Bollywood actor ShahRukh Khan's remark on Prophet Mohammed, which had created a controversy.

Mumbai Aman Committee had lodged a complaint against Khan at Bandra Police Station alleging that the actor has hurt sentiments of the community.

According to the complaint, replying to a question ''According to you who is the most impressive figure in history?'', Khan allegedly said ''there are lots of them, some negative ones like Hitler, Napoleon, Winston Churchill and if I can call it history, then Prophet Mohammed and from recent time Nelson Mandela.

And there are nice ones like Gandhiji and Mother Teresa.'' Bandra police sources have said they may question the actor when he return from abroad.

However, the publication, issuing a corrigendum in a tabloid, has clarified that in the interview featured in magazine's Vol-1 Issue 6 Jun-July 09 issue the answer to question should have appeared as : ''There are lots of them, some negative ones like Hitler. Then Napoleon, Winston Churcill were impressive. If I can call it history, then most impressive positive figure is Prophet Mohammed.

And from recent time - there are nice ones like Nelson Mandela, Gandhiji and Mother Teresa''.

I concur.... this one wrongly interpreted statement could have completely tarnished his image, the image that he built on his own all these years. it's unacceptable..This is a very sensitive issue and 'writing error' can create an uproar amongst his fans-followers, religious groups and the likes. How can the jouranlist be so IRRESPONSIBLE?/? (Provided whatever SRK cleared is true).....It's ridiculous how jouranalists and publication can just get away with these things---they should be sued.

LOLLLL!!! Twist twist!! Trust people to read things wrong and interpret it in their own way and find an excuse to complain about a celeb. Even with that error it is pretty easy to see what he meant. And really why would he ever name the Prophet in the list of negative ones!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And the proof readers of mags need to be more careful when they proof read an interview so that they don't get someone into trouble for their typed errors.

if it was anyone else i would have said that they are now back-tracking and putting the blame on the mag
but
the mag has also apologised and more importantly, i have heard alot of SRK interviews and he is always very positive about islam
