(Inspired by a scene in Kausautii Zindagi Kii between Prem and Mukti.)

Takes place after the interns return to Sanjeevani from Panchgani, and ignores the new Sanjeevani Project track and everything that takes place after it. Pretty much this shows how both Abhi and Niki were falling for each other after they got back...

Night had fallen over Mumbai and the rhythmic sound of crickets and other night noises filled the peaceful air. Niki slowly walked through the parking lot while looking through a file that she had planned to take home and review. While vacationing at Panchgani a whole lot of work had piled up at the hospital. Now she and the others were working overtime trying to catch up.

"Let's see...he needs to be admitted soon...double dose meds...no, no...needs more time...'" Niki continued to mumble to herself as she flipped through the pages of her file. Brow burrowed in concentration, she squinted trying to read in the dim street lights. Walking with all her concentration on the file, she failed to see the rock in her path and let out a gasp of surprise as she tripped over it. Catching herself she stumbled back a few steps and let out a sudden cry as pain shot through her leg.

Niki winced in pain and bent over to clutch at her foot. "Ow...Oh God, this just had to happen right now..." Wincing and grumbling Niki slowly forced herself to limp back towards the hospital.

"OW!!!" Niki cried out as she stumbled over her hurt foot. Before she could hit the ground, though, she was safely caught and pulled back up. Shocked she found herself staring into Abhimanyu's worried eyes.

For a few seconds the two stared at each other in a trance before Niki finally looked away and shifted uncomfortably. Recollecting himself Abhimanyu gently helped Niki to stand up straight. "Honestly, how do you end up in these situations?" he asked trying to cover up for his staring.

"Quiet!" Niki flushed in anger. "Do I look like I put myself in these situations on purpose?!" With that she yanked herself out of his arms only to stumble again. Abhimanyu quickly reached over and steadied her again as she let out another cry of pain at the sudden jolt.

Tsking he bent over and tried to examine her foot. "Are you okay?"

"Don't touch me!" Niki snapped pulling her foot away. Abhimanyu pulled back holding his hands up in a calm down like gesture.

"Easy, I'm not going to hurt you." Once more Abhi tried to examine Niki's foot only to have Niki shove him away with a growl.

"I don't need your help! I can take care of myself!" That said Niki turned her back to him and started limping towards the hospital again. "Ouch!"

"Niki!" Abhi hurried forward to steady her only to have her shove him away once more.

"Just leave me alone! I told you I don't need your help!"

Abhi let out a frustrated growl and grabbed her by the shoulders. "Just what the heck is your problem?! What are you trying to prove here?"

For a minute the two just stared at each other in silence: Abhi in frustration and Niki in shock. Finally Niki averted her gaze and shrugged out of his hold. "Look I don't need you. I can take care of myself." Turning her back to him Niki once more began limping away struggling to keep a calm face despite the pain.

Abhi watched her silently for a few seconds before shaking his head in annoyance. Suddenly Niki gasped and stumbled only to be once more caught by Abhimanyu. Before she could pull away he bent down and scooped her up bridal style.

"Ab-Abhimanyu! Put me down!" Niki cried out as she struggled against him.

"QUIET!" Niki froze as Abhimanyu straightened up and shifted her into a more comfortable position. Glaring at her in warning he snapped, "Another word and I'll drop you!" The beautiful girl swallowed hard and found herself unable to say a word as the handsome doctor stared back at her. Caught in each others eyes Abhimanyu slowly began carrying her back towards the hospital.

Neither of them said a word or broke eye contact even when Abhimanyu entered Sanjeevani through a side entrance. It wasn't until he settled her gently onto an examination table in one of the rooms that the two finally broke eye contact.

Still stunned into silence Niki watched in shock as Abhimanyu went about the room gathering supplies. It was only when he returned to her and lifted her foot to examine it properly did Niki wince and let out a cry. Abhimanyu immediately gentled his movements and slowly massaged her foot before winding a bandage around it. Every time she let out a whimper Abhimanyu would pause and gentle his movements even more. Niki watched in awe unable to remove her eyes from him. It was only when he stood up again that she realized he was finished wrapping up her foot.

The two continued to stare into each others eyes and Abhimanyu slowly reached over and brushed a strand of Niki's hair out of her eyes. Niki felt her eyes flutter shut for a brief second from his touch before she found herself staring at him again. Without taking his eyes off of her Abhimanyu once more reached over and picked her up bridal style. "I'll take you home," he whispered. Dazed Niki nodded. Still staring into his eyes, not a word passed her lips as he carried her back out and helped her to settle into the front seat of his car.

Throughout the ride the two found themselves sneaking glances at each other, blushing and looking away when their eyes would meet. Finally they arrived at Niki's house and Abhimanyu got out and made his way over to Niki's side of the car. Opening her door he helped her out and then once more bent down and picked her up. Once more caught in each others eyes he carried her towards her house and didn't put her down until they were inside where he settled her onto her couch.

For a few seconds more the two continued to stare at each other. "I should go," Abhi whispered still staring at Niki.

"Yeah," she agreed just as lost in his eyes.

Without thinking Abhimanyu leaned over and brushed a kiss across Niki's forehead. Slowly he pulled away brushing his hand gently across Niki's cheeks. Niki's eyes having fluttered shut the second Abhi had kissed her leaned into his touch unable to supress a soft sigh.

"Good night," he whispered slowly pulling away. Standing up he started to slowly back away from her.

Still in a trance Niki's response was just as softly spoken, "Night." She didn't look away until he was long gone.

The next morning Niki woke up with a smile on her face. It was only when she tried to get up and pain shot through her foot that she came to and realized that what had happened the night before wasn't a dream. With this realization came a flood of memories of the night before, which were promptly shoved to the back of her mind.

"Niki what the heck are you thinking? He wrapped up your foot and brought you home. No big deal. Just relax, and forget about it." Taking a deep breath Niki went about with starting her day and shoved the memories away, though, they continued to silently plague her for the rest of the day.

On the other end, Abhimanyu too woke up with a smile. Remembering Niki's cute expressions he, on the other hand, began his day with a permanent smile.
