OPINION OF THE WEEK.

This has been a major story here past 2 days or so.

What has happened is 2 boys aged 10 and 11 have attacked two other boys who are aged 9 and 11. This has been such a cruel tragedy with one of the boys fighting for their lives and reminicent of a horrendous and tragic case here some many years ago where two under boys killed a 2 year old baby (google Jamie bulger) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murder_of_James_Bulger

The 11-year-old, the younger victim's uncle, was found semi-conscious 90 minutes later with "life threatening head injuries". He was caked in blood and mud in a swampy ravine 500 yards from a council estate.

The victims were allegedly burned with cigarettes, beaten with bricks and sticks, and forced to engage in degrading sexual acts.

They have been charged (thank god, such people shouldn't get away with things - they are not amoral....like an innocent baby and clearly know what they are doing so should NOT get away with it regardless of their age)

What sickens me more, is such Animals laugh about it and their mum says 'it has nothing to do with me'. The mum should be jailed too . Disciplining her kids? Yh thats a joke.

What should the Punishment be for these two boys?

They should be hanged for all i care...or put them in for life sentencing in Adult prison...

Should they get the same punishment as adults for attempted murder?

Yep...just because its a kid doesnt mean they dont know anything...degrading sexual acts? 10-11 year olds? they definitely know info like an adult, why not be charged

yeaa...like in the james bulger story, one of the boys' mother was an alcoholic and the father was abusive. All this definitely has an effect on the kid. It teaches the kid that doing all that is not wrong.
But i still think the parents are also at fault! they raised the kids like that and now they should suffer along with them!

Well, not sure about that. Im kinda double sided on this one...
i think they should be named cause what they did was just plain cruel...they deserve to be hated by everyone
I think they shouldnt be named cause people will try to get them...you know like hurt them. And THAT isnt good either. No one should stoop to their level

I probably seem really mean right now...many are goin to argue that they are just kids, etc. But what kid does that?! Thats just inhumane! and little kids too..

Broken Britain indeed. It's actually quite scary to hear about such things - and the even scarier thing is that it is becoming more and more common. It's a sad reflection on the society we live in that such stories are beginning to lose their shock value...

What should the Punishment be for these two boys?
Whatever it is, it should be for life. I believe they should be subjected to the same humiliation and pain that they have inflicted so that they understand how it feels, and then spend all their lives with the weight of their actions.

Should they get the same punishment as adults for attempted murder?
Yes. These are not the actions of children, there is no innocence here. Punishment should fit the crime and the intent, not depend on age.

Does the Birth mother have any fault in this? Father not around, i think they are being fostered right now.
Any parent has full responsibility for the raising of their child. They bring the child into this world, they nurture it..they teach it right and wrong. To stand back and say "nothing to do with me" is itself a failure of the parent. But then again, what can you expect from children who have been raised by people like this, where they have not learnt what responsibilities are...

Absolutely. Name them and shame them - if we keep accepting this kind of behaviour, it will continue to occur. Of course, I am not advocating violence against them but at the same time they should be made to feel responsible for their actions.

Yes, I know these are kids themselves and we should protect them, teach them etc etc. But at the same time, when they do something wrong - and so wrong - no-one should be allowed to get away with it just because they are young.

Yesh at sum point she is responsible... she must take care of his child. must luk out wht he is doin, where he is goin. wht he is up2. I guess these type of turn out to be brutal murderers of tomorrow. it is true that a strict punishment for these boys would really spoil their life forever but what about the innocent infants or the innocent people that they have killed.Was their life not worth?
it is true that one who dies is above all the worries but the people who are left behind wait for justice.
they should be given justice.they are worth it

This is such an old debate.... and many uni across the country are asking the question again and again.

What the boys did was simply cruel i guess they will live with this for the rest of there lives. Due to the boys being minors the british law states there names and who there are will be protected. There has been so many stories in the media of how they are both on parol with new identities living there lives amist in the UK.

What there did can never be forgiven but we as human need to understand what triggered such a behaviour amoungst young boys. There have been an number of stories in the papers about these types of plague which is in society.

Everything begins at home is something i believe the stong values in the home are no longer part of the british culture as it was in the late 40s which the empire bedded within its ruled countries which is still adapted my many cultures yet the british are disbanning there own traditions.... UK has the highest pregancy rate with it teenagers, binge drinking boys and girl. I think the brits have lost its way ....and its now steming towards the cultures living in the UK, But those with a good family bond are surviving.

Final sentence goes to the victims parent to have lost such a young child so cruel in this cold self world.

Yes, she does, if she lets her kids do whatever they want, she does not deserve them and should be punished for not "caring" about something that involves her... 😕

What these children did was horrible, and I never would have imagined it happening... If these kids are "potential murderers" at 10 and 11, they could be something far more greater and horrible at an older age... 😕 What has the world come to? 😭

honeslty parents have nothing to do with this whatsoever, many upbring their children with the bets of thier ability and if the children fail to folow them the parents shouldnt be blamed. which mother wouldt want her child to do such an horrendous act? no mother so i believe the mother has nothign to with it whatsoever

This is truly tragic but the situation must be dealt with rationally. The boys need psychiatric help. Let a couple of psychiatrists evaluate them and see what they recommend. Punishing them, naming and shaming them or even killing them will achieve nothing. We should be asking why this happened, how did these children become so violent? No child decides to commit murder or rape out of the blue. Something happened that set them on this path. The goal should be to get to the root of the problem and take measures to prevent children from going in the same dreadful direction.
