Ahhh... TRPs! 😃
For those wondering, TRPs (Television Ratings Points) measure the percentage of households (that are monitered by a particular system) that watch a particular TV segment.
The channels use TRPs to decide upon the fees for advertising in a particular timeslot, and also, the cost for sponsering a show. Of course, the higher TRPs a show gets, the more money the channel can make from it's commercial breaks and sponsership fees 😃
And for producers, if a show is getting bad TRPs, they would probably have to slash down the price at which they sell the episodes to the channel...
And GRPs... just think of them as the total of the TRPs that the channel gained in the measured timeframe.
As we all know by now, Bandini has overtaken the Ramayan as the number one show on NDTV Imagine... and therefore it's potentially the best money maker for the channel also 😃 The show is doing brilliant business for the channel - hence the reason that they have always been pleased with Bandini 😃
Anyways, satys.darak is right... there are quite a few different TRP measurement systems. The AMAP system (the one in which Bandini seems to always be around 3.5 and 3.7) gets posted here a lot, as does the peoplemeter system (the top 100 list).
The producers and channels use neither of these - they have their own system...
The peoplemeter system doesn't seem to take measurements from all over the country... it's clear that it gets its data from the south somewhere! Most of the time, the top channel (as per the peoplemeter system) is SUN TV, which always seems to be on par with Star Plus 😆 And let's face it, there is no way in which a regional channel can be the number one channel all over India... because most of India cannot even speak that language!
And similarly, the AMAP system also seems to be taking measurements from a much smaller area (rather than from all over the nation)... it's not clear which area it is, but all I know is that the numbers differ a lot from the numbers that the channels report.
And so we get different numbers according to the systems used 😊
God bless.
