People need to garner attention for their talent to get noticed. Again its said but its not unique to this one field.

I am not disagreeing with your general argument. true. i think i should make myself more clear which i didn't. i think people shouldn't make such statements until they prove their worth. talking about fans, everyone has fans. there is always going to be someone who is going to love a celebrity for different reasons. having fans doesnt you are a good actor. neither does having good looks. deepika is pretty hyped and that's because how she represent herself and how she handles her pr. thats why directors sign them. just like how slb signed ranbir and sonam because of their background not because he thought they'll give him a hit (i am sure he was hoping for that). until you prove yourself, stop making such comments. that goes for both sonam and deepika.

I love this!!! Should I start defending Sonam? Is it worth it? Maybe not.

IRWPPT, I think you have a point actually. But you should use better words to make your point. :)

Whatever. In my opinion most newcomers except for Kangana in the last 2-3 years are overrated. They have miles to go before they can prove themselves. I dont even see the point of having such a senseless topic. Let Deepika & Sonam do their work, and lets judge them by the work they do. These statements like golden spoon & acting is in my genes wont take any one too far. At the end of the day an actor is only judged on the basis of the quality of work they do, not whether they were an ex-model, or whether they were born with a silver spoon or with acting their genes.

oh come on..deepika got no talent..which director said it or iz it said by someone who is not an actor herself or himself,,as well as for beauty, can u tell me which actress that become heroine is ugly, for e.g, Sonam had to lose her weight when she act in Saawariya, can u tell me y?, r u tellin me than the Sonam'c character in that film that is waiting for the guy she love cannot be played by fat gal or this kind f stuff dont happen to fat gal?..u need a balnce to become an actor both beauty and talent..

i dont understand y when the stars make some nice comment ppl dont come out with such topics but when the starz make some comment that other ppl dont like they will waste their time in creating such topic for it....so not unfair😡😡

I soooo agree with this. India-forums reminds me of a fish market at times where people just rattle away with their haggle not listening or paying attention to a differing opinion. You'd do much better somewhere else if you want a healthy discussion, however I don't know any place on the internet where Bollywood ad their stars are discussed healthily. Their fans treat them like gods that cannot be offended. But I digress......
And OP, I agree with you. Neither Sonam nor Deepika have much acting talent. One got in because of her lineage while the other due to modelling. But they are good lookers and have what a typical bollywood heroine (note: I did not say actress. 😆) needs and has to offer. And I see both of them establish themselves as big stars in the next five to 10 years. That however does not mean that I expect much from them when it comes to acting chops.

In my opinion, there is no argument here. Sonam and Deepika and several others are here because of contacts but to stay back they need more than that. Some charisma, good PR work and talent too.

Our Bollywood films don't run on talent. If it did then we would all be discussing more about 'Gulaal' than 'Kambakht Ishq' promos. Do we have the right to criticize when we ourselves go for glamor and make topics on 'Bipasha looks average without makeup' whereas she actually looked simple. Actors are human and we should appreciate their guts to come out with out a trace of makeup. Then we are the ones who criticize actors who endorse fairness creams.

So looking at our topic of discussions here at least, I don't even think we have the right to talk about talent.

As for Deepika or any other actor, as long as they don't put down others to get mileage I am fine. One needs to promote themselves and even the biggest actors and stars do that. Why did earlier films of Aamir flop and when did he strike gold? He has found the success in his marketing skills. What Aamir does is not something great but the way he has managed to make most beleive that he is something else is his skill. So seasoned actors and stars do the same.

As for why arguments happen...hmmm..because people interpret things the way they want. We aren't all same. Are we? Some likes Freida Pinto so they go out of the way to justify every move of hers whereas others just think that she is mediocre who has got great PR skills. So Freida or Deepika or Sonam..all are stars. They need to go a long way before they should be called actors.

Agreed. I have not seen acting talent from any of them. However, I like all three of them. But then I've been known to be biased when it comes to Frieda 😆 so I guess I can't save my head there. Regardless, they do have miles to go. 1,2 or 3 movies are not enough to hail someone away to glory.
Although I do have to point out that I like Frieda and Sonam for their fashion forwardness and their attitude towards reporters when they talk to them moreso than their acting. And I like Deepika for her diplomacy and because she has a good head on her shoulders.
As for the "argument" discussion, I will stand by my point. If reminds me of a fish market, although not so much now.....or maybe thats beacause most of the teens left? 😉
