Winners on Nach Baliye

An indya.com exclusive interview with the winners of Nach Baliye - Varun Badola and Sai Anand Deodar, along with the lady who was pivotal in making the decision - Saroj Khan, as they share their experience of being part of the nation's first ever celebritry dance show, aired on the nation's popular station - STAR One

Varun Badola, Best Male Dancer, Nach Baliye

Jodi number 07 - Rajeshwari and Varun, stole the hearts of the judges and the millions of viewers of Nach Baliye... Rajeshwari was counted as one of the best dancers through the show, they seemed to be the ones to challege whoever gets to the finals... But, in the week just before the finals.

When it was taken for granted by many of their fans that they will definetly make it to the finals, Varun blanked out on the stage. Many viewers broke down looking at his helpless state, he says it was unexplainable... Read on to find out about his Nach Baliye experience.

How did it feel winning the Best dancer of Nach Baliye?
Nothing! For someone who was branded as a non-dancer... I guess it is just a feeling of a long journey to have got the Best Dancer prize! I had worked for it... It had the effect it was supposed to, I was part of the choreography, choosing the song… everything. It was a package I planned, so it was a great feeling!

What were your wife's comments when you won the prize?
She was happy, we had decided on the concept and worked on it… Judges were impressed, that's what we wanted to do, finally.

You both were really good with the comic expressions, did you plan that?
No, it was not intentional, but we did a good job of that in the comedy week.

How was the competition spirit in the show?
Everyone did their best, it was good.

What happened in week nine, when you sort of blanked out?
I did blank out. It was obviously not stage fright... I have been in front of the camera for long and it was not the first episode either. It was a one-off thing I can't explain it... Later, when we performed after sometime, I din't have any problem. At that moment, the music seemed to fade out and lights got dim… I have not understood it myself, to explain whatever happened! All I can say is that it was my destiny and it chose a wrong day, wrong time.

What was the experience of the Nach Baliye experience?
Now, after the whole Nach Baliye rush, I feel like I am jobless, days seem long. We use to rehearsed from 3:30 to 10:30… It was tiring!

Who was your favourite judge?
I liked them all. About Sarojji, I emotionally connected with her. I hit it off well with Farhaan and Malaika and I just got talking on the show. There are no particular favourites, they were all nice to us.

Your favourite jodi?
Archana-Parmeet and Shilpa-Apoorva. Archana and Parmeet added value to the show, they are not great dancers, but added that extra to the show. Apoorva is a great dancer and Shilpa tried to compliment him, we saw her going out of her way to do her best, they were good too.

Who was your favourite dancer in the whole show?
Raj, my wife is a good dancer amoung the women, Sai is good too. Among the guys, it was without dispute Apoorva, he is a good dancer.

Your current and future projects?
I am working on Rabba Ishq Na Hove and Astitva Ek Prem Kahani…. I am tied down with these, I dont have any other project planned.

Message for your fans:
We tried our best, we hope we entertained you, so keep the spirit and have fun. It was a pleasure. Thank you all!

Sai Anand Deodar, Best Female Dancer, Nach Baliye

Jodi number 10 - Sai and Shakthi, were eliminated in the very second week of this super hit celebrity dance competition, Nach Baliye. On the final day of the show, Sai won the hearts of the judges to win the Best Female Dancer of the day, In indya.com's exclusive, Sai shares her belief in herself...

How did it feel winning the best dancer of Nach Baliye?
It was a complete shocker… I was surprised, having been eliminated in the very second round, it was not expected at all, but I feel good that I was appreciated.

What were your husband's comments when you won the prize?
He knows my talents, he too was thrilled. We shared the feeling of joy together. After being eliminated so early, we deserved to relish this one… Moreover, the performance was appreciated by all, it felt good to get what we deserved.

How was the competition spirit on the show?
There was no killer - neck-to-neck competition… for the final day's performance, many of us performed the song we had already practiced for before the eliminations. We din't have time to rehearse. Personally, for the two of us, we just had to show to every one that we were always good. That was important, we just did our best.

What was the Nach Baliye experience like?
It taught us a lot, it thought us how to react to situations, how things really work... it was a good learning experience.

Who was your favourite judge?
India... Yes, the nation! I think many believed in us because the votes were good in the first week.

Who was your favourite jodi?
Varun and Rajeshwari! They really compliment each other - Rajeshwari is versatile, they were appreciated every time, their chemistry is awesome…

Your current and future projects?
I am currently shooting in Masoori for Darna Mana Hai... It's exciting and I have never been part of a suspense-psychological thriller. I play the role of a Bengali woman whose sister goes missing, it's about her search. She doesn't give up. All the roles I play are of women who don't give up, I am lucky to play these roles.

Message for your fans:
Believe in yourself! If you are good, you will outshine everyone. You will be recognized for your talent as one's efforts never go unheard. Go for it, and never repent it. All the best!

Saroj Khan, Judge one, Nach Baliye

Saroj Khan, one of the judges of Nach Baliye needs no introduction. A stalwart in Bollywood choreography, she has taught and guided many of the present best dancers in the industry.

Saroj Khan is considered the best and her decision was pivotal to many Nach Baliye jodis as her ackowlegedment could change their lives. Many tried to impress her and others respected her. Her decision among the three judges was held at higher esteem... Here are excerpts of the interview with the Nach Guru.

Was it difficult to decide the best dancer on the last day of Nach Baliye?
Yes, it was, but both Sai and Varun deserved it.

Why did you choose Sai and Varun?
Sai was flexible like never before on the show, she danced very well, while Varun was very good on that day.

Who were the competitors closest to Varun and Sai?
On the last day, Varun was great. For Sai, Rajeshwari and Neeru were competition, the best got what they deserved.

If you were to decide, would you have given Varun a second chance in the ninth week, when he blanked out?
Yes, very much! Everybody deserves another chance.

How was the experience of judging Nach Baliye?
It was very nice, different from the other shows where I have judged, because the decision was based on the audience votes, we only gave our opinion. The concept was good, in two months many non-dancers turned out to be good or atleast decent dancers, that was the best part of the show. It was an innovative concept.

In the start, did you expect any jodi to make it to the finals?
I had no idea who would make it. Basically, they were all non-dancers, their performance improved every week, they picked up slowly. So, I had no clue who will excel and who would get the votes.

Message for your fans:
Remember, I was a good judge!
