Bollywood is at again. It seems people don't want to tell original stories and rely on tried-and-tested successful Hollywood formulas and films. The similarities between John Abraham starrer Hook Ya Crook and Adam Sandler starrer The Longest Yard cannot be ignored.
THE story of Hook Ya Crook goes like this: John Abraham plays Viraj Pradhan, a boy with unlimited passion for the game of cricket who aspires to play for the Indian Team one day! Alas, it seems like his dream will never be realised when he is sentenced to a maximum security prison due to his reckless behaviour.
At the prison, he discovers that the dangerous inmates are as passionate about the game as him and soon he is in huge demand, thanks to his talent!
With his new ragtag group of friends, a tyrannical warden and his never-ending lust for the game, Viraj renews his search for a way to achieve his dream of playing cricket for India!
As if the plot was not enough, they have even copied the poster. The poster of The Longest Yard has an American football in cuffed hands while the poster of Hook Ya Crook shows a cricket ball in cuffed hands. Whatever happened to originality?
This comes as no surprise as David Dhawan's last film Partner starring Govinda, Salman Khan, Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif was a remake of Will Smith starrer Hitch and also had shades of the Tom Cruise starrer Jerry Maguire.
David Dhawan was unavailable for comment.
